Just bought a used M8 and it has Firmware 2.005 on it. I can see the latest is 2.024 but there have been minor problems with it. Is there a list of what features were added in each firmware?

What version would everyone recommend I go to (if I need to change at all?)

TIA

Thank you. I’m very excited by it, it feels lovely!

Thanks for the link, I’ll shall read everything avidly :)

One thing I've noticed is that it has a black Leica dot rather than a red one. Was that an option or just an aftermarket update?

The M8.2 had a black dot - if it's one of these cameras, it will say LEICA M8.2 on the hot shoe. Otherwise, it's an aftermarket update.

It doesn’t say M8.2 so guess it was just a cosmetic change. Looks great either way

If you press the black dot and repeat "My Leica M8 makes the best pictures." 7 times your pictures will improve substantially.

Here is an interesting article about the M8, along with some photographs that show the camera's capabilities, if you are willing to work within its limitations of the 160-2500 ISO range:
      https://www.35mmc.com/26/06/2020/leica-m8-finally-falling-in-love/
At the risk of stating the obvious, with any Digital M camera ISO appears to be a very significant factor with regard to image quality.  I tend to work with ISOs of around 10-15% of maximum on my digital Leicas (Q2 and M-P 240) in the interest of image quality.
I/Q does not always seem to be a linear proposition, though.  With my M-P 240, I have made images at ISO 1600 and even 3200 that still result in exhibit quality prints at 16x24 inches, depending on subject, lighting, shutter speed and probably a whole kettle full of other intangible factors.
The M8 was a "gateway drug" for this photographer, as he has decided to upgrade to an M10.  He took the affordable bait and now he is hooked!  😄

Just installed the new Q2 firmware. Writing to the SD card is significantly improved. The buffer hasn't improved, of course, so I still get only 9 fast DNG+JPEG photos before the camera stops shooting, but instead of ~20 sec to finish writing, now it's <10 seconds. The card is a Sandisk Extreme Pro 300 mb/sec 64 GB.
I had never saved my settings as a User Profile, so I lost them. (Hint, when the camera asks if you would like to save your user settings before doing the firmware upgrade, it's NOT going to tell you that you don't have any.  ) Now I get to spend the next 30 minutes trying to recreate my settings. Sigh.
