I agree, I hope Leica will keep it to 24-30MP zone but improve DR, which to me much more important. Or lower the base ISO to 50/64. That will help us to use fast lenses without filters

... some weeks ago I had the opportunity to test the new Leica Q2 on the streets. Very nice, fast and reliable camera (but completely different from my M-cameras). Of course it‘s pretty nice that you could crop the hell out of each photo. But the downside - for me - is, that it takes quite a while for the camera to write the pics to the SD-card (think of the M9) and that it takes quite a while, too, to open and to edit the files in an image processing program (I tried Affinity and Snapseed - the latter is my standard). I edit my photos almost exclusively on an iPad Pro and with the files from the Q2 it was quite cumbersome.

My personal wish would be the 47MP sensor in a new Leica SL and an improved sensor (like @fatihayoglupointed out) for the M series.

The writing speed is an SD card issue. What kind of SD card did you use?

I would be interested when M10-new (=M11) has EVF, auto ISO, auto shutter speed, and manual focus. 24MP sensor is more than enough.

An M10 with visoflex has all that.

Three issues with that. Form factor, EVF resolution and shutter delay. An in-build EVF with a higher resolution and no delay would be pretty awesome. Or let’s say some kind of hybrid solution.

I love my M10, even the shutter sound, I never would invest the money to get a shutter "upgrade".

I like to use my EVF with super wide angle lenses or adapted lenses. In the past I thought it would be cool to have a M10 with a built in EVF. But that would mean that I have to give therefore my optical Viewfinder, and I would never want to have an M without it, because there is no way to focus wide angle lenses that fast and that exact as with the OVF.

Long story short: Please keep the OVF and give us a better external EVF. Technic is improving, so that it should be possible to have a better one at the same size.

I just got back one of my M10s back from the Wetzlar with the full M10-P conversion. The super quiet shutter and touch screen with electronic level is addicting. When I shot my M10 the shutter now sounds loud even though it really isn't loud compared to any DSLR I have ever owned.

My Fuji XT3 shutter volume sits in the middle between my M10 and M10-P. The Fuji XT3 electronic shutter has no sound at all.

With all of this, I don't plan on a full conversion of my other M10 because it works great and the full conversion is $2,995.

Just find a way to keep my nose out of the OVF when using the Visoflex on the M10 and I’ll be pretty happy. 😉

... sorry, I don't remember. The Representative from Leica gave us the SD-Cards (SanDisk somewhat). But he told us before we went out to shoot that it will take some time to write the files to the card.

I think he was warning you that he was giving you slow cards. That was a bit mean and it didn’t allow you to judge overall Performance.  However, you didn’t need to wait for the file to be written to the card before shooting again.  There’s an adequate buffer memory.  If you kept the card, you should now replace that card with a faster writespeed card such as Sandisk extreme, 90 Mb/sec .  Class 10 or similar from alternative manufacturers.   You will immediately notice the difference.  There are even faster cards and  you need to weigh up the benefits of extra cost.

Larger files out of the Q/Q2 demand careful selection of cards and editor.

plenty of debates on this forum about efficient sd cards.

good luck.

Anyone thinks the M10x comes as an M10M (monochrome) version with a high MP sensor >40 MP?

By definition, an M10 M means a Monochrom version (i.e., sans color array) of the current M10 sensor platform.  I’d be surprised if that didn’t materialize at some point.  An M with higher MP (new sensor) would presumably be an M11 or beyond. I have no idea how the M246 (M240 platform) has been selling vs the original MM (M9 platform), but that would factor into future Monochrom decisions.  Stefan Daniel indicated back in 2017 (last interview question) that an M10 M will surely be considered, but not before the M246 runs its course...

I further agree with Jeff S. About 3 months ago UK Leica dealers and some other European Leica dealers lowered the pricing of the M246 substantially. I believe the price will adjust in the US before the M10M comes (if it does).

I was just thinking a monochrome version of the M10 is about due and the higher MP sensor seem to be ready.

I am still hearing that we won’t see an M10M in 2019. We may get the rumors and or release at Photokina (maybe). But, who knows if the info I got is good.

Photokina isn’t until 2020 anyway.

The M, like the S and SL, seem to be close to a 4 year major upgrade cycle.  That would place an M11 around January 2021.

Putting the Q2 (or even the Q) sensor into an M camera is not a simple swap.

M sensors need a special microlens layer to counteract vignetting with the interchangeable-M wide lenses.

The Q sensor is a "bespoke" unit designed around/for the 28mm f/1.7 lens (and vice-versa). Can't just be popped into an M without significant reworking and testing -  and reworking of the other electronics (A/D converter, buffers, etc.) to handle the larger files. Any more than a Sony or Canon sensor could just be plugged into an M camera.

There may well be a 47-Mp Leica M - eventually - but it won't be just transplanting an "available" sensor.
