Q Sensor Issue?

Recommended Posts

Advertisement (gone after registration)

Hey folks - I just purchased a secondhand Q on eBay. It arrived today and I've been really enjoying the feel after shooting with a 240 over the last many years.

But when I started seeing the images in Lightroom my heart sank.

Can you take a look at this and tell me what I'm seeing here? Looks like the sensor is corrupted somehow?

Thank you!

Some of those spots are not birds. If other shots show the same, return the camera

Best thing to do: take some shots of an evenly lit surface at different ISO settings, different apertures, focused and defocused. What do you find then?

Those are all very uniform in their general shape I believe they are parachutes

Agreed.   Expand the image and I can see some chords.  It’s very easy to clarify whether there’s a fault on the sensor.  Just take one more image and check for similar artefacts.

however, the darker artefacts on the left may indicate a different problem.  If they are still present on a new image, then yes, return the camera.

i think they might be Leica parachutes being tested for remote delivery of Q2 to remote dealerships

please let us know the outcome. . 😊

I would attempt to take a clear blue sky photo at f/8 then take that image and the camera and return immediately to where you purchased it. I do not ever remember seeing any artifacts like you're showing previously with a Q. Dust spots yes, but not "parachutes". The Q should not have any artifacts like you're seeing. Good luck. Please inform us on the forum of any discoveries as to what is going on if you learn anything. Otherwise, find another Q.

To detect dust or spots on the sensor you do best to use the Leica M 240 advise. Smallest lens opening (Q2 f:16 defocus 30cm) take picture of evenly lit grey subject. Most convenient is to use an Expodisc in front of the lens.

      Hi!
I recently purchased a used Leica Q manufactured early 2018.
When I try shooting in night, both "low iso + long exposure", and "high iso + short exposure" captured in DNG file shows annoying banding, and even some unwanted color points, like the images shown below.
Is this a native camera issue? Or this camera sensor is defected : (

I'm thinking of going to the Holi festival in Delhi (the coloured dust thrown everywhere one) this year and obviously want to take my M240.
I can throw on a 15mm lens which means I can pretty much point and shoot but what is the best way to protect the whole thing.
Is it freezer bags and tape are are there custom options?
      Many thanks in advance, Dave.

      Hi Everyone,

I recently notice a small/short black line at the edge of images taken with M9P. I’m not sure what causes the fault.

Can anyone please have at these 2 images, and share your thoughts? Thank you.

      - Chris

My Leica D-Lux 3 that displays (1) a purple color shift for white colors in bright light; and (2) a photos show a green or yellow tint in low light.
I have looked over the presets and defaults. I cannot find a switch that improves the display.
I believe that the exposure sensor is damaged or malfunctioning.
Otherwise, the camera is in good shape cosmetically and according to a review of the presets and default, working correctly.
A used replacement on Ebay is about $150 to $200.
      My questions are:
-1- Can I send my camera to the Leica repair for a new sensor for that amount of money? I know about the submission form that requires a maximum repair cost to be stated.
-2- Is a Leica repaired camera totally checked out and then repaired so as to insure long lasting functioning?
-3- Is it better to purchase another non-leica camera for $150 to $200 with improved specifications like increased megapixels?
      Thanks for reviewing my questions,
      Inkbox
PS I encountered an error when uploading files; although I deleted the upload files, I cannot upload replacements.
I have used up all of my storage space and cannot locate a delete button in My Attachments.
