Can a rangefinder be out of adjustment in the middle ground (10-30 feet) if the rangefinder is in adjustment at short focus and infinity with a given lens? In this case I used the regular 50 Lux ASPH @1.4

short focus: 3-6 feet    --> focus is perfect every time

Infinity   --> perfect

If the middle ground is out of focus but short and infinity are good, and rule out user error, would a good assumption be that the lens needs to be adjusted?

Yes - it is possible but quite uncommon. Not a DIY adjustment. If the camera it would be the length and/or offset of the RF lever, on a lens a maladjusted helicoid.

Is there any way/test to identify which it is or is this just a trip to Leica?

My suspicion was the camera originally because I noticed on multiple lenses and Leica diagnosed it was indeed significantly back focusing.

That said, maybe they corrected the initial issue and stopped, thinking that everything else was resolved.

I think I probably just need to send the camera and 50 to NJ to have them sort it out. Bummer.

Thanks both for the responses. All the years with M6, M9, M240, etc and I've never seen this middle ground focus issues. It has always been either near or far.

Yes it can, my Lux75 was very problematic on that issue and took 4 trips to Wetzlar before it was sorted out.

Some one can correct me, but on my knowledge they test / calibrate on few specific distances. If the lens / body has issue that it misfocuses only between those specific distances the issue goes unnoticed from the service(?).

So, it turns out it is in fact the rangefinder back focusing at mid range distances. Happy I wasn’t imagining it but sad I can’t imagine a super fast repair time.

Leica NJ has been fantastic and lead times are greatly improved from this time last year and fortunately I have an M10P to keep me busy.

Interesting! Can you show me which part Leica will adjust at the picture? I have something heard of a "bending tool"!?

I have no interest in trying to do anything with this. I can hardly turn a screw driver.

For the love of God I am begging you guys to not post the drawing of how to adjust the rangefinder again on this forum.  I feel we are this|close to seeing that useless drawing.  (With all due respect to the original creator.  He isn't at fault.  But someone really should have created a video on how to do it at this point.  As I've stated on this forum many times in the past, "how to adjust your leica rangefinder" is literally the ONLY how to video that you can't find on You Tube.)
