bokelley Posted March 9, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good Morning...long time member here that has owned an M8 since 2008 but have been very quiet over the years as discussions moved on to newer models. Well, I have finally made the leap and purchased an M10 and must say that it is quite an improvement. The camera is used but appears nearly brand new and had been advertised with approximately 5,500 shutter actuations. Being the curious sort I did check the shutter count via Photoshop File Info and this is the unique ID hex code on the last shot from the camera: 4E9ED52D69C67E5E137DB0 Using and on-line hex to base 10 converter, that works out to be on the order of 95046280263087030013230512 shutter actuations. Being a skeptical sort, I doubted that even Leica engineering could produce such a robust shutter mechanism. The camera has the latest firmware (2.6.5) and appears to be functional in all other aspects. So my question is, has anyone else run into such an issue and if so, how was it solved? jaapv Posted March 9, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2019 It is impossible for the user to determine the shutter count on the M10 The unique ID appears to be random.
bokelley Posted March 9, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted March 9, 2019 Thanks Jaap, another Leica mystery I suppose... thus shall not fret over the unknown and simply enjoy it for the fine piece of equipment that it is. Brock
jdlaing Posted March 9, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2019 You can’t see a shutter actuation count. At best you could get a count of images captured by the sensor.
kepstein Posted March 9, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2019 I think LiveView made this technique obsolete.

That does make some sense although I would argue that accessing LV does in fact actuate the shutter as does sensor cleaning....

scott kirkpatrick Posted March 9, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2019 Not that high. The unique ID is some sort of hash of some other counter. Mark II's download app is supposed to decode it or find it my other means, but I haven't had time to try that.
Mark II Posted March 9, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 9, 2019 Yes, the unhashed version seems to be available available over the WiFi link. I will put a new sw release out next week that can display this. It is not terribly useful as it only counts number of images, not shutter actuations. Its main value is so that I can tell you that I shot ~11000 images in a year of owning the camera - only to delete around about 2/3 of them 😂 1
