Still waiting ... pre-ordered with B&H on March 13, was told to expect it at the end of March, and now they tell me there's no ETA. I'm #8 on a list at a NH camera shop, and they were expecting a shipment of 8 at the end of March ... still hasn't arrived.

Unless I'm way off base, Leica built a warehouse full of Q2 cameras before it is announced.  Why Leica then trickles out a few here and a few there every once in a while is beyond me.

From everything i have read about the Q2, there is no need for Leica to withhold them from the market to create demand.  The demand was like a tidal wave the moment the Q2 was announced.

A cynic might argue to "create artificial demand" and thus ensure no discounting. If ten's of thousands of Q2's hit the market at once it would likely lead to discounting by the big box operators thus undercutting profits margins at Leica boutiques and small camera shops.

Don't get me wrong, there is often value added by purchasing from a boutique or specialist store. I recommend purchasing from a local merchant/brick & mortar store.

I'm just saying that by restricting the flow and trickling out a few cameras here and there tends to support units being sold at MSRP.

My understanding is there are about 200 people total employed at the Wetzlar factory. Obviously, only a certain percentage are camera technicians. Considering the amount of work needed to produce a 28mm Summilux (and I know the Q and Q2 use a slightly different version), a slower roll-out seems understandable.

B&H has changed their story.  It would be fun to know the true reason why, and to know how long the wait will really be.  Originally people here (and myself) who ordered around March 11 were told cameras would arrive April 1 and ship thereafter.  Now B&H said that didn't happen, and no information is being conveyed about a shipping estimate. It's a reasonable conjecture B&H was originally told "story A" by Leica, and Leica did not deliver on time as promised. Today, B&H's information source is not telling B&H what to expect, or B&H is not saying what they have been told.

I wish I had kept my Q. Now I will have to make do with my (technically superior) D850 with its wide assortment of exceptional lenses, suffering a quintessential luxury problem.  Maybe I should get another Q and take the $700 loss from zig zagging instead of spending the $1,800 net that the Q2 will set me back. The more I read about it the less there is to like.

I wouldn’t characterize that as B&H “changing their story.” They’re relating whatever info (or lack of) they have from Leica to their customers. Frankly, the Leica store here in Los Angeles seems to be just as much in the dark as to when to expect new shipments (I’m on both lists).

I kept my Q and used it on a recent road trip through the southwest when it became clear the Q2 wouldn’t arrive in time. I’ll sell it when I have the Q2 in hand. I still have my Pentax 645z and assorted lenses but have largely abandoned taking it outside the studio now that I’ve become accustomed to carrying the small, light and powerful Q. Regaining 47MP with the Q2 will be very welcome.

Sounds like a smart move.

"Whatever info" they are relating changed. No matter how one chooses to say it.

I was at B&H   this evening....    They had a Q2  to play with...  the guy behind the counter told me"  that if i ordered one TODAY...  you might have it my September"  I can only hope that he's  wrong  or very misinformed.  I saw 2 on "Greed bay" but they were crazy prices.

One might think that!  Nikon did the same with the D850...  who knows?  maybe it was some bean counter  thing   to see what the demand is...

Carrying inventory costs money. Once the product is finalized and in production you sell it instead of incurring the cost of building and holding back inventory. I am skeptical that they are holding back production or inventory. They can simply make a “special edition” and the mad money comes screaming in begging to be taken.

As far as I know, there are no big box stores that are authorized Leica dealers.  Target, Best Buy, Walmart, etc. do not stock and sell Leicas.

Leica authorized dealers - whether huge like B&H or small like Tamarkin - must sign on the dotted line with Leica and agree to abide by Leica's all of policies in order to sell Leica equipment.  If they break any of the terms of the agreement they lose their Leica dealership, including selling only at the prices set by Leica.

That's my understanding of how it works.

Update from The Netherlands: I will most likely get my Q2 towards the end of April. Got a message this morning from the sales rep in the A'dam Leica store, and it seems there will be "some" Q2 deliveries planned for end of April.... can't wait...

To be continued

This is similar to what I heard from Green Mountain camera in Vermont... "It may not be until later in April."

Believe it or not. You can get a Q from Walmart.

True, but if you look it is sold and shipped from someone other than Walmart.  Similar to how Amazon does it.

While one can buy a Q online at walmart.com, there's no chance of walking into the local Walmart and picking one up.
