sixteen pads Posted February 28, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Group, My Leica M4-2 front focuses a lot. If I am focusing on 5 meters away, my focus falls on 7 or even 8. The patch aligns properly however, both horizontal and vertical. So when shooting one would assume everything is perfect until you get the developed photos and you see every single shot to be off. Any thoughts on how to deal with this or what is the issue exactly ? I would appreciate any input. thanks and good day pat

Jon Glass Posted February 28, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2019 Does the issue occur with different lenses? If so, it sounds like a calibration issue with your body...if not, the lens is your culprit.

Like I mentioned, the rangefinder seems to be in perfect shape. Thanks Jon.

When was the last time it was CLA'd? It would be a good excuse for a CLA, at which time the technician would adjust the rangefinder. Before you send it off, you may want to double check by focusing on something at different intervals (say 5, 10 and 20 feet) with your rangefinder, measure the actual distance from the film plane to the subject, and compare it to the distance scale on the lens. The problem may be a combination and not just one component. Anyway, good luck and please let us know how this concludes. -Dan
jerzy Posted March 8, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 8, 2019 Analog Ms have 3 adjustment points: at 1m, at 10m and at infinity. Real focus (not what you see in rangefinder) might be correct at infinity but off at 10m. Adjusting is time consuming, have to be repeated few times to get best results, changing adjustement at 1m for example influences adjustement at infinity. Best would be if you could check what does the distance ring on the lens show when focusig according to rangefinder at known distances (moon for infinity). 3-4 measurements shall be enough to instruct repair person at which distance problem occurs.
