Thanks for the reassurance not to return. Is the fact that the focus patch does not align at infinity mean that the camera needs calibration or could it still be within tollarance?

Flyer

The focus patch should only align at infinity when the lens is set to infinity and the object is miles away, not on objects much closer, like the alarm box. In fact, it should NOT overlap in your scenario.

However, some lenses will not quite align the focus patch 100% with the lens to the hard stop. As long as the lens focuses correctly, this is of no importance.

Infinity or one mile 😉...

This remind me of old US advertising ( 70's Esquire or Modern Photography for example):

[

picture of an empty pack of cigarettes ( ... C...L... Turkish & Domestic Blend ...)

Today, a man needs a good reason to walk a mile.

(Blank lines)

Start walking.

Hello Flyer,

Welcome to the Forum.

Andy's suggestion of using a cloudless Moon as a target in his Post #7, this Thread, is a good suggestion. It is better to do this outside instead of thru a window.

A cloudless Moon is an available (In many places.), reasonably large subject which is far enough away, which can also be used as a repeatable subject for a variety of tests.

If you do this test later with a film camera please keep in mind that since the Moon is lit by the Sun: What you are looking at in terms of color temperature is reflected Daylight.

Best Regards,

Michael

Is the rangefinder patch out horizontally or vertically? Sometimes if a lens is not mounted correctly, the patch will be out a small amount vertically. Just make sure the lens is seated properly.

You can try a Leica lens on the camera and if there is still an issue, then the camera needs to be adjusted.

An M10 is ludicrously easy to calibrate for infinity and for vertical using nothing more than 2mm allen key. You can pay someone to do it or you can do it yourself in 20 minutes.

It is highly unlikely you have three lenses out by exactly the same amount. More likely the camera which could have been bumped during transport.
