Advertisement Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Hi frame-it, Take a look here Grease for lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted February 23, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 23, 2019 I use a product called Unigel Turbo, which is a synthetic lightweight grease with micronised teflon. It is almost non-evaporating/has a very low vapour pressure, so does not evaporate and re-condense on glass surfaces. It has very high lubricity and is non-oxidising. I also use a cotton bud to put a wipe of it on lens mounts and filter threads. This is particularly important if you buy Heavy2Stars Leica filters/hoods/adapter rings, which seem very prone to binding in Leica filter threads. The Turbo Gel seems to eliminate this problem. The other place I have used it recently was on the very small screw in cap covering the remote electric shutter release port on my Motor-Winder R. This cap was very difficult to remove, where I had to use a Flexiclamp to unscrew it but after a tiny amount of gel on the thread, now unscrews with my fingers. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! zeitz Posted February 23, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2019 I have been using Helimax-XP Optical & Instrument Helicoid Grease. It says "with Lithium & PTFE White - NLGI # 1" on the label. As Wilson says a little goes a long way.
romualdo Posted February 24, 2019 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2019 This may sound like a stupid question but how do you actually lubricate the aperture ring (with a Q Tip) - do you have to physically remove the ring first?
zeitz Posted February 24, 2019 Share #5 Posted February 24, 2019 I never lubricate the aperture ring. And I definitely never take them apart because I don't have the patience to put them back together. I just clean with lighter fluid (naptha). I don't deal with automatic diaphragms, so I don't know how they would be lubricated.
Kleinkamera Posted February 24, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 24, 2019 Another good choice, often marketed as a bicycle lube, is by Finish Line. I do my own bike assembly so I always have a tube or two of this grease laying around. Works great. Welcome, dear visitor!
