Torontoamateur Posted February 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) With the announcement ( By way of a "leak") of the 47MB Q2 is a 47MB M far behind? The lenses can certainly hold up to the higher Pixel count and I would enjoy the upgrade for my Landscape Photos. Anyone KNOW? We can all speculate but what do you possibly Know?

frame-it Posted February 22, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2019 you mean 47MP ?
LocalHero1953 Posted February 22, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 22, 2019 There are two possible answers to this. 1. Nobody knows, and nobody will know till the official announcement. That applies to the Q2 as well. 2. Lots of people here know, because they will tell you they know. Their posts usually end with "believe me" or "you read it here first". You have no means of telling if they do know. Pick whichever answer keeps you happy.

budjames Posted February 23, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2019 "Fake news" makes it to the forums? Personally, the sharing of thoughts and desires as to what may or may not come by other posters makes for interesting conversation. rnl Posted February 23, 2019 Share #9 Posted February 23, 2019 (edited) This raises an interesting question: Is an increase in pixel number associated with a better exposure. I have three canon cameras in addition to my M10. They are Canon 20da - 8 MP Canon 5ds - 50 MP; and Canon 1DXMkii - 20.5 MP While the results from each are different, I am not certain that the sensor size is primarily responsible. The 20da is old and is an astrophotography camera. It produces competent daytime exposures. The 1dxmkii provides excellent photos under all conditions - -10F in Alaska, at 15,000 feet with high wind, in a desert at 110F, or just around town. It fires at 15 fps and with the right CF2 card can take 200 exposures without taking a "breath". Action shots - sports or nature - are easily obtained. You may have to take 50 exposures but you can be certain that you won't miss the opportunity to get the best shot because the camera is pausing or is too slow The 5dsr is a special animal. the photos are crystal clear at huge crop, however, a steady hand or tripod is required to get the best out of that camera even with canon stabilized lens. It barely gets 5fps and will stop after 20 frames are in the cue. The exposures are huge - 85 mb each. I do not believe that more pixels are necessarily better. LBJ2 Posted February 23, 2019 Share #10 Posted February 23, 2019 (edited) Great rumor! I hope the specs are true. Not so much for the 47MP sensor, but for the possibility that Leica may have improved their Q FF sensor tech altogether. I do like the added benefit of more MPs for more MPs and flexibility in crop mode. Very welcome for a 28mm fixed lens camera to include 35, 50 and now 75 options. But I'm hoping whoever Leica hired to build the Q sensor has been able to come up to modern FF sensor standards for this new Q2 compared to the original Q. I've never considered a fixed lens camera before but this time I am taking a hard look at the rumored Q2. algrove Posted February 23, 2019 Share #11 Posted February 23, 2019 Just wonder about hand holding an M at 47 MP better technique needed if the Q2 has 47 at least it has OIS

Michael Kersting Posted February 23, 2019 Share #13 Posted February 23, 2019 Who knows what the pixel race may bring!? Imagine to have a 47MP Monochrom -M and a 47MP M11 for studio photography for portraits and fashion. That would be nice. Would make a medium format camera unnecessary?! I don't see the usage range of an 47MP M on street and available light but more for studio, landscape and architecture photography, where you can rely on good light or a tripod.

Everybody in advertising imaging hates extreme fidelity. A most popular macro would promise to transform a digital 47MP into something like a 6c* cm film image. jplomley Posted February 24, 2019 Share #16 Posted February 24, 2019 Are the current stable of M lenses up to the specs necessary to support a 47 MP sensor. I see a very clear difference between my SL primes and M primes that would leave me to believe the M glass might struggle.
LBJ2 Posted February 24, 2019 Share #17 Posted February 24, 2019 I would be very surprised if M glass can’t handle 47MPs +. I see very good results adapting to Sony 42MP cameras.
mdemeyer Posted February 24, 2019 Share #18 Posted February 24, 2019 It’s not that you can’t hand-hold with a high MP sensor. It’s just a question of what kind of technique it takes to actually realize the value of all those pixels. 4 hours ago, LBJ2 said: Never had to worry about handholding Sony 42MP cameras. mdemeyer Posted February 24, 2019 Share #19 Posted February 24, 2019 It seems not often mentioned but, to me, a meaningful benefit or more MP is less false color aliasing on sensors without AA filters, like the M10. Not always a problem, but sometimes it’s a pain to deal with, although the new Lightroom Detail Enhance algorithm seems to work surprising well in many cases. See... https://blog.kasson.com/the-last-word/adobe-camera-raw-11-2-enhance-details/ for examples.
M11 for me Posted February 24, 2019 Share #20 Posted February 24, 2019 vor 6 Stunden schrieb LBJ2: I would be very surprised if M glass can’t handle 47MPs +. I see very good results adapting to Sony 42MP cameras. When the M10 was lauched at it had “only“ 24MP then it was frequently said that more was not possible due to this and that. And now we talk as if the M11 had clearly more than 40Mp😂😂
