Donzo98 Posted February 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have you guys seen differences in sharpness among different lenses?? I am considering a purchase of an F1 Noctilux of a very trustworthy and experienced Leica owner. He says he had 5-6 F1's over the years and this is the best one he has seen. I know the F1 isn't know for it's wide open sharpness, but this one lens is special in his opinion. Thoughts??

If you trust the seller it is a strong endorsment, not many people go thru half a dozen or so of the same lens to choose best of the bunch, never mind Novtilux. Prosophos Posted February 19, 2019 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2019 I have owned/handled 5 of them. Variation in performance is a real thing. Not sure how much of it is secondary to lenses going out of spec (after all, they have been around for a while) and/or how much of it is secondary to sample-to-sample differences. ―Peter. Bo-Sixten Posted March 10, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 10, 2019 I have had two F1s. The first was softer in the center, but with relatively more even sharpness over the field. The second, 6 bit coded which I still have, is very sharp in the center, but with a stronger field field cuvature. At 5.6 and above it’s sharp all over the field.
