Lens cap for use with B+W filter.

First post. Got a Q on Friday, fitted a B+W 49mm F-Pro MRC 007 clear filter on it today in the hope it will protect the glass - camera is specifically for a 6-week road trip so highly likely to take a few knocks, see some sand etc.

The metal hood that comes with it stills goes on, but not deep enough to be a secure fit. Can anyone recommend a replacement which works?

Remove protective ring.  Install lens hood.  The lens cap will now fit on the hood with a friction fit.  I only put the cap on my camera when it is in its bag.  The hood is enough protection, IMHO, when the camera is in hand ready to shoot.

Cap. Without the good there is not really enough depth to create a secure fit. With the hood it slips off a little too easy.

I guess I could bend it in a vice a fraction?

Thanks Marchyman, will follow that advice 👍

Barely out of the box so just going through the daft questions I can’t resolve with the manual. Hopefully that’s the only one.

A number of us use a neoprene lens cover. The op tech mini fits fine and of course just stuffs in your pocket when you want to take a picture

I now use op-tech lens covers on all cameras.  My workflow is faster, the things stuff into my right rear pocket, and if ever lost, not very expensive.

The lens hood in always mounted unless shooting with a polarizer.  Once or twice per year since polarizers are very problematic on wide angle lenses, even when cropped.

Enjoy your Q -- mine has been my constant companion for three years and will be my only camera for a few weeks in Italy this June.

Another advantage of the op tech cover is that it protects much of the lens barrel from accumulating dust and grime since it will cover most of it even with the hood in place.

Why hasn't anyone told this newbie that you're not allowed to start a discussion about lens caps until posting at least 10 fabulous photos? Lens caps are just too controversial to discuss without first establishing your photographic bona fides. 😀

seriously, welcome! and enjoy your wonderful new camera, and take great photos and let us see them after you return from your trip!

Thanks Bags. 👍😆

Trip isn’t for 15 weeks, but once it happens I’ll certainly post some up. If all goes to plan there should be plenty of great locations.

The hat arrived today. Perfect accessory, thanks for the recommendations 👌🏼 📷

Thumb grip added too. The machined groove for the thumb on the back is a beautiful looking bit of design, and it does feel nice but there is more confidence holding the camera with the extra piece of metal shoved in the 🔥 👠

I can start taking photos with it now!

Did I understand this correctly?  You cannot use the regular cap on the camera?  I have the filter and the hood, and I can put the cap on, and it's sturdy enough.  That neoprene cover is unsightly.

Yes you can use the supplied cap either over the hood with or without filter and over the lens without filter but with the threaded ring attached - the ring you take off to attach the hood. The issue is, unless Leica, have made some mods, the felt lining to the cap wears and the cap comes off all too easily - mine has bounce marks from the pavement and fortunately there was no drain nearby for it to fall down! The Optec hat is not elegant but extremely functional.

Hello, I would be interested in buying the product of the op/tech. Could you tell me the exact model name?
Thanks
