wlaidlaw Posted February 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) At the moment I am using the RRS BP-CS plate off my Leica SL601 on my R9 with the small Motor-R fitted, which shares its non-rechargeable CR123A batteries with the camera. This plate is not ideal, as its register lip has to be positioned at the rear of the Motor-R, as the front edge of the motor is curved. This means the camera always tips forward when sitting on its base. There are two companies offering plates for the motor/winder R8/9: RRS and Kirk. They list respectively their B44 and PZ-48 plates. However I don't know which version of the Motor/Winder these are designed for, given Leica offered three alternatives: The fast Motor-Winder-R with 12V rechargeable battery pack, the smaller and slower Motor-R with a 6V rechargeable battery pack and the Motor-R, sharing its CR123A non-rechargeable batteries with the camera. It is the latter that I am using. The other thing I am not too keen on with both of the recommended plates, is that they are quite short. I prefer a longer plate like the BP-CS, to give more flexibility on balancing the camera on a tripod (I am currently using the strong but very light Jobo Gorillapod 5K). Any recommendations? I could always get a 75mm universal QR plate and file off the register lips at the end, if they did not fit https://www.photospecialist.co.uk/sunwayfoto-universal-qr-plate-76mm?channable=e13528.U1dGRFBHNzY&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz9bmy8Gp4AIV47ztCh0YvQn2EAQYBSABEgI1W_D_BwE Wilson
Advertisement Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here QR plate for R9 with small Motor-R (no accessory battery pack). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted February 10, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted February 10, 2019 I bought a 70mm Generic plate for £11. It had two back to front slots and one side to side. I am using the most offset back to front slot and that seems to work just fine, with the camera now sitting on a flat surface without tipping over.
