a.noctilux Posted August 13, 2019 Share #81 Posted August 13, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just my two euro-cents concerning more pixels in next Monochrom. Sweet spot is already there with 24Mpix on 24x36 sensor no Bayer Matrix, which is as in film day (resolution wise, less acutance of big film of course) as using with 4"x5" fine grain film sheet. More pixels would be overkill 😉 and to tripod-use it only or IBIS why not, Leica may be foolish enough to offer the thing and sell it well 😇. 1
Advertisement Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Hi a.noctilux, Take a look here M10 Monochrom in 2-3 months. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dante Posted August 16, 2019 Share #82 Posted August 16, 2019 Honestly, what's the point of an M10M? The Monochom line is the tiniest and most provincial corner of the Leica world, and as long as you can build it on a 240, there is no reason to spec a new, ultra-low-volume 24mp sensor that isn't capable of increasing image quality. A Q2-sensor-based Mono would be a huge step up. You can always use more MP with modern lenses; the 25 Zeiss Biogon, for example, is probably going to be fine until/unless 100mp sensors become the norm. I also think the "not good enough-ness" of lenses is a little hilarious. I use a 28 PC Nikkor on mine, and at shooting apertures for that "crappy retrofocus SLR" lens, you run out of sensor resolution, not lens sharpness. I don't understand the "need IBIS" stuff on a camera that can shoot at insanely high ISOs and the only thing you get is film-like grain....

Maybe for the same reasons many choose the M10 over the M240, including form factor, superior viewfinder, weather sealing, elimination of video, etc. Plus Leica now has plenty of experience eliminating the color array on a proven sensor and optimizing results to further extend the life of an already existing M platform. BTW, I would guess that Leica sells more Monochroms than screenless M—D versions. And still profits from all variations. Choices are good.
