EddieCheddar Posted January 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, I was thinking maybe we could start a "cheat-sheet" thread on how to set up your SL for certain shooting situations. Let's say you want to go shoot the moon, or take pictures of a football game, or get some shots in a dark theater with a spot on the actors, or you'll have to deal with a large bright window in the background... you get the idea. Just a one-stop thread to add your specific settings and suggestions. I understand that many of these specific-settings depend on specific lenses and exterior issues, but some simply "general idea" suggestions might help us newbies, and be simply reminders for the veteran shooters. For example, MrJohn just asked on here for some specific ideas on how to shoot a basketball game, and Sarkis and others added these suggestions:Try these setting for starters to shoot sports: ISO = AUTO (recommend setting the ceiling to 6400) Continuous AF Shutter Priority Drive Mode : High Speed (or try medium continuous mode. At high, the AF is locked on first frame. By the way, the buffer runs out fast when you stay on high.) Turn Auto-Review off - it's a distraction when you shoot action. Auto Focus: try Dynamic, Zone, and Spot to see which one works best for you. File format: record jpg to both cards or...DNG to Card 1 and jpg to card 2. Don't record DNG to Card 2; it's too slow. Make sure that the image stabilization is enabled. If you want to freeze the action, start with a shutter speed 1/500 or 1/320. See how sharp the shots look and adjust accordingly. If you want a little bit of motion blur, you can play with slightly slower speeds. It's not perfect for action but it does a decent job if you set it up correctly.
