Hi guys.

Have been lurking in this forum for a long time and enjoying the beautiful images posted by the members here and more importantly the extensive knowledge you guys posess that immensely helped me in my learning experience.

I noticed that in the viewing window under certain angles a shiny diagonal line shows up. Is this normal or should I return the camera?

Looking forward to being a hopefully contributing member of this wonderful community!

this window is used to illuminate the focus rectangle within the viewfinder..  It isn’t part of the image.  I’ve looked carefully at my. M10 and have used a torch to look at this window.   I can see a diagonal line which is the same as yours.  I never noticed it before but i don’t think it is a fault or damage.  I certainly won’t be sending My M10 back after using it without problems for a year.

Enjoy your Leica.

Thank you, I feel relieved!

These cameras are so addicting! Last year I purchased the Q which I love, but then it snowballed into acquiring a CL with a few lenses, and now the M...

Should have went straight with the M😁

I have one last question. I also bought the 35mm Summilux FLE. The focusing ring is kind of stiff, but the aperture ring is extremely easy to turn. Is this normal? When I compare the aperture movement to my Q, the 35mm definitely feels more loose.

I can’t really answer your question about the FLE.    I have the 35 Summicron.  The aperture ring is very easy to turn but it has strong click positions.  It never changes accidentally.

I had an M9, added a Q, added an M240, then sold all three to have the M10.    I don’t enjoy making decisions about which camera to take out and I don’t like having kit that isn’t productive.   The M10 is almost as satisfying as my original M9.

These things are variable but the focus shouldn't be too stiff nor should the aperture ring be loose. Some have found that the aperture ring loses all it's click stops and ends up spinning freely (which it shouldn't of course). I would return the lens for another one now rather than risk it getting worse later on when you will have to return it for a warranty repair.

As to the diagonal line - there is a pentaprism inside that window to reflect the secondary RF image to the viewfinder while keeping it right-side-up and correct left-to-right.

The 'bright line" is simply an edge of the pentaprism reflecting light.

See image at top of this page to see the 3D shape of that part of the RF mechanism:
