One of the first close-up solutions offered by Leitz was the supplementary front lens. There were nine of them : three different reduction ratios being 1:9 for nº1, 1:6 for nº2 and 1:3.56 for nº3, and three codes for each nº for adapting to various lenses : ELPRO-ELPIK-ELPET for the Elmar 5cm, HEPRO-HEPIK-HEPET for the Hektor 5cm and ELCAT-ELCOM-ELCUR for the Compur model B. Needless to say, these three last are the most scarce.

I just found an old photo in my Fontenelle collection archives showing front lenses ELPRO, ELPET and HEPRO, and the first one mounted on the Elmar, the second one mounted on a Summar through a VMCOO adapter, and the HEPRO on the Hektor.

Here is the Elmar close up kit, which was one of the items in a very cheap box of assorted Leica and other makes "junk". It all goes in a nicely made but non-Leitz fitted wooden box. I can't see me ever using it but as it cost me next to nothing, it is worth keeping.

Your "system" is the BEOOY, which appeared in 1931.I had the various systems, including the BEHOO, BELUN, BEOON et BOOWU in my collection, and very rarely used them. Here is an image of my BEOOY.

We visited some of these in Nov. 2017.  With regard to copy stands, fixed and variable, I will put together some information, especially the STARE and its forerunner, the FEREP!  Below are just the Elmar attachments,  I have similar sets for the Hektor, but only one or two for the Compur.

Thank you gentlemen for sharing these pictures of interesting, if rarely used, closeup lenses and kits.  I certainly learned about the box varieties from Alan's pictures of his "healthy stock" of these accessories, a fine assortment.

Did Leica print instruction sheets for use of the closeup lenses?

Extensive “tables” of exact measurements for these lenses were available.  I believe the “Leica Manual” has these.   Frankly, the  PLOOT,, though bulky, provided a superb close up device.,  simply by attaching the normal lens to it.  These lenses and devices though  did play a big role in copy and reproduction work, very important back in the day.
