Advertisement Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Hi kengai, Take a look here Summilux 35mm: II or FLE?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
enboe Posted January 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2019 FLE is generally considered better due to focus shift correction, however both produce wonderful images. If critical focus plane control is necessary, you can use live view. Eric
agiknee Posted January 28, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2019 FLE all the way. The hood design and construction is so much better. Optically, I feel like the FLE renders color better but they’re both super sharp. I still have both and the FLE is my everyday carry. The II is always just being rented out or borrowed. lct Posted January 28, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2019 What do you mean by "II"? Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph v2?

lct Posted January 29, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) 055 (?) then? The Summilux 35/1.4 v2 has little to do with the current FLE. Two completely different beasts unless you compare them at f/5.6 or f/8. If you want softness around f/1.4- f/2 choose the v2. If you want some glow at the same apertures, same answer. If you want the most compact 35/1.4 ever made (AFAIK), ditto. If you want to shoot your mother in law, idem . But if you want sharpness, especially high acutance, the FLE is made for you. 1

It's a fabulous lens. frankly, I've been happy with all of my Leica lenses and I've been able to purchase most second hand in great condition at substantial discount

lcd32bit Posted February 4, 2019 Share #10 Posted February 4, 2019 Having owned v2 (sold), v3, v5, and used the v4... some notes: v2 (Pre-ASPH - Sold) is nicely compact, but there is heavy spherical aberration wide open. It has a nice dreamy effect which works for some shots, but the effect gets old and it's really not an everyday lens. Prices have skyrocketed recently, and I sold it for a nice profit to fund the AA. v3 (Double Aspherical - Own): The legendary lens with two machine ground, and hand-finished aspherical elements. If this lens wasn't so difficult to manufacture, it would've remained relevant up to the current FLE version. Sharp, no focus shift, with clean bokeh, and interestingly enough focuses down to ~0.6m (but is only coupled down to ~0.65m on the M10 and ~0.7m on the MP). Prices have more than doubled in recent years making this one hard to attain - I sold 4 lenses recently to get this one. v4 (ASPH - Used): This was the redesign of the AA to use a single all-machine-ground aspherical element. At the time, this lens was already impressively sharp, but there are three issues: Not as sharp as the AA, focus shifting at f/2-2.8, and noticeable bokeh rings due to the imprecise aspherical machine grinding process at the time. v5 (ASPH FLE - Own): This is the current version, and I have the Silver version as it came with my MP "Oliv". If there was a perfect lens, this would be it. Super sharp at all apertures, all distances, and in all conditions. Very clean bokeh, especially in the edges. I still like the rendering of the AA better than the FLE for most shots, but you can't beat the crispness of the rendering that comes out of the FLE.
