Yes, I stripped a couple of Red Dots with acetone. Airbrushed several VERY lights coats of Acrylic flat black (Vallejo 71.057) to get a match to the M10 black chrome. I say again VERY light coats as not to loose the sharp detail of the excellent Leica script stamping. I wish Leica would offer these covers in body colors through the A-la-carte program. I prefer the script vs the screw.

I recall from a discussion on the forum some years ago that Leica GeoSystems was very unhappy that Leica Camera had sold M8.2's with white script on black dots and issued a permanent order to cease and desist. I prefer the script vs the screw. It matches very nicely! And the process of changing the dot? I didn’t do it yet because I don’t know how to glue(?) the replacment dot. I’d love to do something similiar with my silver M10. Thanks a lot!

derleicaman Posted February 4, 2019 Share #47 Posted February 4, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) The "black dots" came about when I specced the LHSA Black Paint M6TTL cameras. Tom Abrahamsson and I wanted to get away from the red dot of the standard camera. Leica agreed to do the black dot along with the black paint finish. Believe me, it was like pulling teeth to get this done. I guess Leica really liked the look too, as they put this on the M8.2. Leica Microsystems owns the Leitz script and uses it on a black background, so they asked Leica Camera to stop using the black dot.

farnz Posted February 4, 2019 Share #49 Posted February 4, 2019 Ah yes it's Leica Microsystems not Leica Geosystems that owns the logo, thanks for the correction. Pete.
Reciprocity Posted February 4, 2019 Share #50 Posted February 4, 2019 I get plenty of non-leica owners recognizing my M10, and that is even with the black dot, L0L! I guess it depends on where you live? I am in a very affluent area.

derleicaman Posted February 4, 2019 Share #52 Posted February 4, 2019 BTW, I had some black dots left over from the LHSA camera. Added the black dot to my silver M10

In UHNW areas it magically becomes visible and identifies the owner as part of the crowd 😉 What a clever and visionary concept.

evikne Posted February 5, 2019 Share #56 Posted February 5, 2019 (edited) I am relatively poor (according to my country's standard), living in a poor neighborhood. And nobody will ever suspect that the old-looking camera hanging from my shoulder cost three times more than my rusty car. 😁 Edited February 5, 2019 by evikne
jaapv Posted February 5, 2019 Share #57 Posted February 5, 2019 I'm probably the poorest inhabitant of my "affluent" neighbourhood, but nobody has ever said anything about the camera I am using, except my accountant who asked me to value two golden Leicas engraved with Swastikas that he bought in St.Petersburg.
