kegon Posted January 23, 2019 Share #1  Posted January 23, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! Since this is one of my first post here, a short introduction: My name is Hannes, I come from Germany and dabble around with photography for about 40 years now...  I use Canon when I need tele lenses and for wide angle I use a Leica M10 with 4 lenses. I like the M10, because I can always carry it with me... "I ware a Leica" - if you like. So doing this, I needed a small camera bag that I could fit in my Rimowa Pilot Case and take out quickly to have my camera right at hand. So common bags with excessive padding do not come in handy for me. Other than that, I do not want it to look like a camera bag... Since sharing is caring, here it is: http://www.angelo-pelle.com/metropolis-bag.html As you can see, besides the camera with EVF and 35mm lens attached and two or three lenses - depending on their size - there is an agility reserve for accessories and the footprint could not be smaller.  It is called the M-etropolis Bag, I would call it the "Grab and Go Bag". The build quality is superbe, even leather inside. I have the light brown version with black zippers, the leather looks even better, if you apply something like Brooks saddle care right away, before starting using it - ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE 😉 The order process was perfect. You get updated on every step in the process via email. Angelo Pelle delivered the bag to Germany within 24 hours. Since I am really happy with this bag, I shot Angelo an email, telling him, how nice this bag is and that I would share this in this community. He responded immediately with a very nice email stating among others, that he feels, his bags are never mentioned in forums... This changed now. kegon Posted January 23, 2019 Author Share #3  Posted January 23, 2019 I know, but since there are two parallel zippers, the opening is wide enough, to take out the camera  without scratching the screen... Though I admit, I am carful, taking the camera out of the bag. Other than that, once I took my camera out of the bag, it usually stays around my neck for the rest of the day... pedaes Posted January 23, 2019 Share #4  Posted January 23, 2019 Welcome to the Forum. Billingham bags are very popular with the Leica crowd, and suggest Hadley range.  For a little more expense/exclusivity you could also look at Fogg bags.

The OP already picked and purchased the camera bag and isn’t looking for buying advice.

Since I need to fit my camera equipment and my office equipment in my Rimowa, these have too much padding. I like to have everything in one place. I wonder how well two top zippers maintain weather sealing if caught in significant rain.  Handsome, but practical? Jeff

Jeff I have old fashion Domke something bag with zipper in the middle. Can't recall any trouble after walking under rain for some time. One thing I would never understand, where those who wear those tiny bags are keeping phone, keys, wallet, leatherman tool and the bottle :).
ramarren Posted January 24, 2019 Share #9  Posted January 24, 2019 Looks like a nice size for a tight small kit, but I'm not a fan of zippers. I seem to recall another vendor with lovely leatherwork and a similar bag, sizing wise, that uses a complex fold and flap with a simple 'stud and strap' to achieve the closure and weather proof the interior. I tried mightily to get one sent to the USA a couple of years ago, but never managed it.

I tried mightily to get one sent to the USA a couple of years ago, but never managed it.  Thanks for your comments. Quite interesting discussion. As a summary I would say, it depends on the use case, whether a bag is good or not. When it comes to the perception of beauty, let's stick to the Roman saying: "de gustibus non est disputandum" (You can't argue on matters of taste) Well, it is kind of clear, that this is not a Pelicase... A couple of weeks ago I made photos though it was raining all day, so my equipment is exposed to bad weather anyway. Thats why I have a Leica - for robust and reliable usage. Sametime, it is very unlikely, that I drop my bag out of the third floor.. If I really want to have fast access to the camera, it hangs around my neck. If the conditions get really bad, I can easily fit the bag in a backpack. @Ko.Fe: You are asking, where people like me leave all the other stuff, key, phone, glasses... My wife 😉 Just kidding, Believe it or not, but except from a bottle of water, it all fits into the M-etropolis bag. Overall, sometimes there is a difference between what people want and what they need. If you want to sell something, you need to make what people want (e.g. Megapixel instead of sensor size...). When it comes to bags, these need to provide overall protection and still provide fast access and need to be pickpocket proof sametime - I think in English it is called jack of all trades - the doer of everything and the master of nothing... The M-etropolis bag is certainly not for people shooting in the outskirts, it just depends on your use case.

ramarren Posted January 24, 2019 Share #13  Posted January 24, 2019 Amuzing, folks. I have dozens of freekin' bags, many of a similar overall size. But they are all shaped slightly differently, with different features, finishes, styles, etc. Each has (or had) its purpose. Many are now just doing duty as expensive storage boxes. A few are in nearly constant use for carrying gear, depending on exactly what gear I want to carry and what the needs of that carry situation might be. Most of my smallest bags fit JUST the gear I want to use, with the assumption that other stuff is being carried in other pockets on the bicycle, the motorcycle, or in my jacket/vest pockets. The next size up carry a bit more gear AND my necessaries. The biggest ones are for carrying the bulk of all the gear I might want with me for travel, plus other stuff, and usually fit one of the smaller bags inside for my shooting carries. As I said before, this looks like a nice bag and a nice size. The zippers disturb me a bit ... I'm not a fan of the dual zipper top. I've had other bags with that design and it never seems to work out as nicely as I think it might. A single zipper with a fold under it to protect the gear and weather seal it, an overflap with appropriate securing bit, these seem to work better for my needs. The one I mentioned before had a very interesting, almost origami-like opening that folded down snugly for weather protection and the securing mechanism was two studs and such on the sides of the bag where they wouldn't interfere with anything. All have their pluses and minuses. No bag is perfect for all things. I'm going to sell a few of mine to get my closet back under control, along with some of the excess gear they contain now.

Reall coffee Snobs don‘t drink Cappuccino 😉 You’ll see... Will even use the 21mm, that I think was build in Canada just for you. Need to figure out how to get the photo small enough, so that I am allowed to post it here. @ramarren: I guess, we are on the same page. I admit, I would prefer plastic zippers too, but it is not so bad...
