Gavbo Posted January 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) My Monochrom is coming up to 5 years old, the original sensor is not showing any sign of corrosion (at least from what I can see). Would hate the inevitable corrosion sooner or later hence wish to have it fixed while I can. What you don't ask you don't get, right? Anyone had any experiences where Leica replaced the sensor on none issue system? Edited January 22, 2019 by Gavbo spelling
Advertisement Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Hi Gavbo, Take a look here What are the chance of a proactive CCD replacement?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ianman Posted January 22, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) If you pay them, I would expect the chances to be very good to excellent. For free... less so. Edited January 22, 2019 by ianman
pedaes Posted January 22, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2019 "... while is free." I think the 'free' sensor replacement scheme finished some time back. It was never available 'proactively'. Not sure they would replace a good sensor even for high cost involved. You presumably know it is not just the sensor that has to be replaced, but the attached and paired electronics board.. Luke_Miller Posted January 22, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2019 I understand your concern, since I had two CCD bodies that required sensor replacement due to cover glass corrosion. That said, there seems to be no evidence that all CCD sensors will eventually experience the problem. So it is possible your Monochrom will not ever require sensor replacement due to corrosion. I suspect the current price Leica charges for replacing a corroded sensor is partially subsidized. So the cost of proactive replacement of a non-corroded sensor would likely be higher. silverchrome Posted January 24, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2019 Leica will only replace sensors if they are, in fact, corroding. "With regard to the above, we would like to remind you that the replacement of CCD sensors and the upgrade offers apply only to cameras affected by this concrete problem, and only to the models of the Leica M-System we have listed." https://us.leica-camera.com/World-of-Leica/Leica-News/Global/2018/CCD-sensors-of-the-Leica-M9-M9-P-M-Monochrom-and-M-E-camera-models
LichtUndDunkelheit Posted January 25, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2019 I wished they would do new CCD Ms.
Gavbo Posted May 18, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted May 18, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Took a long shot and sent my MM in for a proactive CCD replacement (just before the 5 years timeline) and got the result i wanted, no question asked! Very quick turn around too The camera left my home in UK on 12th April and returned back on 9th May. Given 6 days was in transit (to and back) along with Easter and May Holidays. Very impressed with Leica's after sale Service.
