wlaidlaw Posted January 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone got a PDF of the DMR that they could let me have a copy of. This seems no longer to be available on the Leica website. I am trying remotely, to see if a DMR which is for sale, is working before I make an offer. I suggested just charging it up and checking but there seem to be multiple chargers with this one and the person concerned lacks knowledge. It is about 300 miles away, so I am not going to drive up to check myself. If I can at least send him a manual, there is an outside chance he can check. He has the accompanying R9 camera but I suspect no lens. I already have a PDF of the R9 manual. Thanks Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted January 18, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted January 18, 2019 Many thanks for that. I had tried that site in Safari earlier this morning and it would not work unless you downloaded a scuzzy bit of PDF conversion software, which I just don't do after picking up malware from other software/manual download sites in the past. I had a bit of a search and find that it does work, without any add ons, in Google Chrome, so I now have the PDF. I will now send it to the person with the DMR but I am not optimistic he is actually going to read it. I have also suggested that if he manages to charge it up, take it to London Camera Exchange in Newcastle, who should be able to tell him if it working. They might even have an R lens they could lend him for a better test to see if it makes images as well as just firing up. Wilson
ramarren Posted January 23, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2019 Hmm. Just tried it in Safari (on iPad Pro, then on Mac mini) and it just downloaded the file without any problems at all. They put two button filled screens in the way, of course, but I just ignored them and went to the download button.

I have decided against buying a DMR - too old, no spares and not the greatest digital quality, compared with the modern 24MP FF Leicas I have. I will stick with film in my R9. jankap Posted February 15, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 15, 2019 The digital quality of 10 MP isn't too bad. It could be an interesting collector piece, if one has an R9 /Jan
wlaidlaw Posted February 15, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted February 15, 2019 Jaap, Given that I have been unable to get the simplest of spares for my R9 (a battery compartment door and a flash port cover - the M one is too loose and just drops out), I think buying a 10+ year old DMR would be a very brave purchase. I still have a fully working M8, which uses the same or very similar sensor I believe, so to that extent I would be doubling up. It also turns the R9 from the "Hunchback of Hesse" into the "Beast of Braunfels" (the county where Solms lies). I deliberately looked for an R9 with the small Motor-Winder-R, sharing its CR123A batteries with the camera in the camera grip, rather than the much bulkier and heavier Motor-R with its 12V rechargeable battery pack. Wilson Wilson, I went through a phase of losing the little PC socket caps on my R9 (if that is what you are referring to - part number 14348). It turned out that I was catching the camera body on the side of my bag, and flicking the cap off into the beyond. Once I realised what was going on I no longer continued to lose them, and, as a result, I have three spare ones. If you PM'd me a postal address, I could let you have one gratis. (They are about £5 or £6 each to buy - outrageous I know - so a donation to your favourite charity shop when next you were passing might be nice.)
