ben Posted January 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) M10 with the most current Cron 35/2 ASPH Sometimes when turn the camera on, "uncoded" shows on the LV screen. I'll hold the lens release, unscrew the lens slightly then re-attach it and it's once again recognized as 35/2 on the LV screen.
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi ben, Take a look here Coded lens showing as uncoded. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hteasley Posted January 19, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2019 Take a lens wipe to the coding sensor on the mount. It might be a little dirty.
adan Posted January 19, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2019 ...and check the "dots" themselves on the lens. A bit of dark "stuff" in one of the white dots can mess up the reading.

What does the EXIF show if you take a photo and don't unscrew the lens? My first thought was that if it's a momentary thing leaving the camera in LV mode it's simply taking a little longer to fully wake up.

You may already know this, but I had that problem with certain lenses until I realized that I hadn't rotated them firmly into position (I looked at that little lever next to the lens mount to make sure it had moved all the way). I had the same issue in the field when I switched lenses on the fly; pictures came out OK (well, at least as well as they normally do when I take them) but the EXIF didn't show the lens type. I probably was a bit hasty and didn't rotate the lens completely into position. Of course, yours could be a completely different problem (my symptom was the LED menu indicating a non-coded lens), but I just thought I'd chime in. ben Posted February 13, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted February 13, 2019 Thanks everyone. I cleaned the dots and area around the mount with a little lens wipe and it seems to have solved the problem!
Photon42 Posted February 13, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 13, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds good. I actually did have an issue with the bar code reader of my MD, right out of the gate. The reader more often than not was unable to read the lens code. The camera got replaced. Needless to say this is the last thing you want on a camera with no LCD.
