TomB_tx Posted January 16, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2019 The lens proportions look like a standard Summicron.
jaapv Posted January 16, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2019 Very traditional. Leica has "Safari" editions - all of the useless for safari use - since the R3.
derleicaman Posted January 16, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 16, 2019 Pretty normal for a Safari Edition. Looks like standard 50/2 in a different finish.
albertknappmd Posted January 16, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 16, 2019 They have a market of collectors.. Pays the bills! Albert
bags27 Posted January 16, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2019 This is a post at LR in response: Franklin Berryman • an hour ago Is this so no one will notice your camera when you are driving around in a Range Rover looking for elephants? 1

adan Posted January 16, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2019 Always fun to see Leica turn $5 worth of paint into $1500 worth of profits. Thereby reducing the weight of wallets not connected to anything resembling a mind.... 1
daveco Posted January 16, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 16, 2019 It doesn’t bother me at all. If they have a market for these and can make some profit that helps Leica survive, then by all means, make these.
mdemeyer Posted January 17, 2019 Share #10 Posted January 17, 2019 Just back from a safari in Tanzania. After careful thought (about 11 seconds) I decided to leave the M10 home and take the Fuji X-T2 and some long, stabilized, AF glass. Right tool for the job. Great trip. Lovely photos. 🙂

jaapv Posted January 17, 2019 Share #13 Posted January 17, 2019 Actually I got loads of good Safari photographs on M cameras. Using the various Telyt-V versions on Visoflex III with non-EVF enabled ones and on the 240 with EVF and Vario-Elmar 105-280 and APO-extenders. Unfortunately none had safari paint :(. But they would have been so much better if they had the Safari paint.

howiebrou Posted January 19, 2019 Share #16 Posted January 19, 2019 I like the Safari editions simply because I think they look nicer. Goes well with my olive green Nikonos V😄 If they produced an olive green version for each camera i would be the first in line.
adan Posted January 19, 2019 Share #17 Posted January 19, 2019 I will say that if a gun were put to my head to buy "some" Leica-M special edition, the Safari is the one I could most live with. Better than red-and-gold dragons and such...
