jaapv Posted January 24, 2019 Share #21 Posted January 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, historical factoid: Leica replaced the sensors on Digilux2 for over ten years for free.
Advertisement Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Leica M9 Corrosion with New Sensor. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
PRGH Posted June 21, 2019 Share #22 Posted June 21, 2019 My M9 has its third replacement chip in July 2017 and it was supposed to be a new type. However it’s now showing the dreaded corrosion. Leica don’t guarantee them anymore so I’m faced with a £1500 bill or a new door stop. Stop fooling yourselves, people. This problem with the M9 chip is still going on. jaapv Posted June 21, 2019 Share #23 Posted June 21, 2019 If it was replaced in 2017 it is supposed to be under guaranty for five years after replacement, AFAIK. The original guaranty was the one with the cutoff in 2017. I rather doubt that you are seeing corrosion, though. Post an image.

Could you post some pictures showing this with your latest sensor? I've not heard of any confirmed corrosion issues with the new sensor. 1
marco febbrari Posted July 28, 2019 Share #25 Posted July 28, 2019 Hi everyone, I would like to buy from a friend his Leica M9, sensor replaced by Leica at the end of 2013 with attached documentation. But if, after my purchase, the same problem occurs again on the new sensor, am I forced to pay Leica the new replacement? Thank you all for your attention! If it is the revised replacement sensor you will be fine long term.

When you say 'chip', are you talking about the sensor cover glass being discussed here? To avoid any suggestion of the 'T' word, would be good to get some detai/evidence from youl. For full disclosure, I am a big M9 fan and had a cracked, not corroded, cover glass replaced with the modified sensor etc.,and have had no issues since. jaapv Posted July 28, 2019 Share #28 Posted July 28, 2019 Umm....There was and is a five year warranty on the sensor. So yes a 2013 one has no warranty.

I didn't understand the "chip" talk, I'm sorry but my English is very basic ... My problem is to know if the M9 sensor replaced in 2013 can still run into the corrosion problem! I read in the forum that the first sensors could have a corrosion relapse. I'd like to know if I then have to pay a new sensor or Leica replaces it without other payments ... Has anyone had the same problem with M9 and sensors mounted in 2013/2014? Thanks a lot Marco

In 2015 the sensors on both of my M9s as well as the sensor on my Monochrom were replaced due to sensor corrosion. I subsequently sold the one M9. This morning I ran a check on my remaining M9 and the Monochrom, both cameras are displaying sensor corrosion again.... The question I have is whether Leica will charge for these sensors to be replaced, or is the work undertaken in 2015 still under warranty? Best, Mike

Best, Mike According to what Jaap says, there should be a five-year warranty ... But if a sensor corrodes again, Leica should definitely replace it, be it the first, second or third time! It wasn't me who corroded the sensor, but a problem with the choice of components when designing the M9! Thanks Marco

Guest Posted July 28, 2019 Share #34 Posted July 28, 2019 well yes....that does look like M9's sensor corrosion. I had two of my "original" sensors replaced on my MM1 before having the new sensor fitted on the camera's third trip to Wetzlar so I am quite familiar with the symptoms. Are you sure you have the second generation sensor?

Thats a shame, but the key question for me is was the replacement an original or revised sensor.

Exactly, so from your experiences, is a 2013/2014 first generation sensor likely to have new corrosion problems? But does Leica answer this additional problem? Unless they were replaced in very late 2015, they are probably not the revised sensors.
