m9photo #1 Posted January 1 I miss this little thing, so my new year's resolution is get another and this time is silver!. I need a grip though, currently have the thumbs up. Or should I get one of this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Quick-Release-L-Plate-Bracket-Mount-Grip-For-Leica-Q-Typ116-Typ-116-Arca-Swiss/312298773781?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Hello guest! HighlandK #2 Posted January 2 I think it comes down to how much tripod work you will do. On my D850 I do a lot of landscape and macro work. It is most frequently on a tripod and the RRS L bracket is a permanent fixture. With my Q I rarely put it on a tripod and find the Thumbs up indispensible for a better grip when hand holding. 3 m9photo, Infiniumguy and Mike_HNL reacted to this
m9photo #3 Posted January 2 Thanks, any idea on Leica OE grip and thumbs up combo? does it work better than thumbs up alone?
HighlandK #4 Posted January 2 No experience of that but I am sure others will have. I find Thumbs up is all I need to keep the camera comfortably in my hand for extended periods, often with a wrist strap for security.
Laurentß #5 Posted January 3 I tried the Thumbs Up, but it's killing my ribs when I have the camera bouncing off the strap on my body. Actually, the thumb rest is working fine, but I wanted extra grip.
tgdinamo #6 Posted January 4 I have both thumbs up and Leica grip mounted and find Leica grip super helpful (it feels essential to me, where I don't mind thumbs up on the camera now that I have it, but would not purchase it again).
jbripley #7 Posted January 4 I found a thumb grip essential on the CL, but a bit ungainly on the Q and I’ve been happy just using the built in thumb rest. Is there good forward grip that doesn’t cover the battery hatch? 1 LexS reacted to this

Is there good forward grip that doesn’t cover the battery hatch? There are half cases that have the forward grip and don't cover the battery hatch such as the Lim's case, only drawback is that it adds about 10mm to the base of camera. It also provides a tripod attachment.
Infiniumguy #9 Posted January 4 I find the combo of Thumbs Up and Arte de Mano half case with grip to be like a pair of old gloves. Fits perfect every time I pick up the camera. 2 Cartaufalous and ronnjay reacted to this
microview #10 Posted January 4 Leica grip fine for me rather than Thumbs Up; would not like using the Q so much without the grip. even though you have to remove it to access batery/SD card. 1 LexS reacted to this
falcon468 #11 Posted January 4 (edited) the I use the Leica Q Protector case for mine and added the Flipbac grip to the right side. I have the Thumbs Up attached as well. This combination works well for me. Amazon sells both case and the grip. In addition, I use a Gordy's padded wrist strap and keep the camera in a shoulder bag until needed. robgo2 #12 Posted January 4 I use the Leica grip on my Q. It certainly makes the camera easier to handle. Compared to certain other Leica grips, it is not ridiculously overpriced.
Tailwagger #13 Posted January 4 Thumbs up, Leica grip, RSS B9 plate which is short enough so that it doesn't impede taking the grip on and off.

To quote from one of the Indiana Jones movies, “You chose well.” Sorry, I cannot recall exactly which one. The RRS quick connect Arca-Swiss mount is also a winner.
