I’m typically a wide guy, favouring the 28 field of view over 35.  Even with my long departed X1D II, I only warmed to the XCD45P because of its size.

Looking through this thread, it occurs to me that there are many images where I find the composition too tight, and others which sit well with the 35mm field of view.  That has made me wonder - would I have the same reaction if the photographer had stepped back a pace or two?  How is it possible to look at an image and conclude, with no other information, that it would have been better wider, or perhaps narrower (I’m also a fan of the tighter 50mm  and 75mm fields of view)?

Yet other images suit the 35mm field of view well.  It has me thinking that the relationship between subject, framing and lens selection is perhaps more complex.  I’m early re-exploring the 35mm lens world, but it does occur to me that it suits only certain subjects.  That may be affected by subject selection, where we stand (close to the subject) and the perspective.  The preferred 28mm field of view of cellphones may also have an impact.

Without criticising any poster here, many of the images just seem too tight or too wide …
