Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't get the D version

It's my understanding that it's $700 more than an M10,  and that if you put black tape over the red dot and if you tape over the screen you have the same camera....I was a Nikon (F3HP) shooter and frankly, I was thrilled to not have to develop film as I could check the exposure and try again if necessary.

There’s no screen.  Imagine it’s a film camera.  Shoot and the image is recorded digitally on your sdcard. Then, either view and download your images to a WiFi enabled phone or tablet, or remove the sdcard and transfer images to your computer.

If you enjoy the film experience but no longer want to have to go through wet development processes, then this is the most honest route to take

But you’ve already made that move with your Nikon.  This takes it one stage further.  No chimping!

Ok, but I still do not get it...it's same camera, fewer features (and you can turn off the screen) for more money...then again, I never understood the special edition (red leather or purposely brassed) models either...

Correct.  It’s the Leica tradition. The other tradition is to introduce new models with new features requested by users, -  only to discover that another useful feature has been removed!    You can get that feature back but you have to trade your new camera and buy another.

I think if you enjoy the film experience you stick with film.

No need for excuses, if you don't want to chimp on the go by all means buy digital camera without rear screen.  Any digital camera will prevent you from chimping if you wanted to.  Leica being Leica created unique product, which is good, I appreciate the luxury of instant feedback.

They translate ‘less is more’ by Deutsche Gründlichkeit or vice versa I guess. They stole the idea from Porsche. It’s also possible they consulted Thorsten Von Overgaard for marketing advices.

I haven’t changed my Porsche for 15 years so I’ve avoided the trap.  I just wish I had the GPS and communication systems now incorporated in the later productions.

hardly, while Porsche sells stupid stuff (deviated stitching on floor mats for $1,000), more expensive variations on models always include more rather than less. my toy is below at speed

Nice.  Mine is 3.2 2004 S.  After all these years, it increasingly frightens me on our poor British roads with a 50mph limit on non-motorways and 70mph on motorways.  Carpet mats wear out after 15 years.  Everything else has been hard wearing and reliable.

Leica and Porsche are product mostly made for leisure.  Not many photographers make a living with Leica and definitely not many drivers livelihood depends on Porsche unless they are into motosport or similar (commute doesn't count).  Typical taxi driver prefers Mercedes same as typical working photographer prefers Canon or Nikon.

Isn’t it amazing that this thread of a few members, started on Leica Cameras in which we had a shared interest, and continued on to Porsche in which we have shared interest.

Shall we do mechanical watches next?

ORIS, like Bob Dylan underlines. I guess it’s the only product he ever made advertising for

ORIS .  My first watch as a young boy.

Now.. my watch collection sold and converted into Leica.

here are a couple of items I’ve owned.  Panerai is the only one left.

This actually explains a lot.  I've purchased a 90apo, current version 35lux and recently a 16-18-21 Tri-Elmar all in mint condition, with boxes, and even adapters with filters at less than half of the price of new.  I've always suspected that there are a number of Leica purchasers who collect as opposed to use their equipment.  Like my 991.1 Porsche, I'm using and abusing my Leica equipment as well as my Canon gear.

I live in Pennsylvania. Rutted roads with high gas taxes...highways are a different matter.  Car reaches illegal speeds at redline in 2nd gear.  I can cruise in 7th gear (PDK) at 77 mph with engine revving just over 2000 rpm all day with this 3.4L engine, 350 hp.    Car can easily accelerate with control way past any reasonable speed....

Agreed. It’s the steering preciseness and stability that makes it such a pleasure at high speed.  Unfortunately in the U.K., traffic management creates slow moving traffic and obstacles. I’m afraid that those exhilarating moments are almost memories although my car is no less capable.  I’m running 3.2l.
