a few from RENNSPORT REUNION IV

4 wonderful days at Laguna Seca Raceway back in September............... think of it as Woodstock for Porsche lovers.

In my opinion, the best Reunion yet, made even better by having the confidence to bring only ther SL with the 3 native zooms. Picked up the 16-35 at Camera West in Walnut Creek, CA on the way to our house in Carmel. Camera and lenses all worked superbly without a single hiccup or downside. The only item which might have improved that kit would have been the custom-made German 90 degree anglefinder ( available only from the Miami Leica store so far as I know ), but alas, they were out of stcok, consequently my knees took a Hell of a beating.

Really love the 16-35. Sensational lens, draws beautifully, sublime image quality, ideal zoom range, perfect autofocus...........optically every bit as good as my previous favorite ultra-wide angel, the 21mm 3.4 Super Elmar M.

Staring this set with an early, foggy morning image of the first' PORSCHE ever, the model 64, especially built for the planned Berlin-Rome race which never materialized - 1 of 2 ever made..

Thanks for looking,

JZG

A freshly restored 904............perhaps restored too well, I don't recall these ever being this clean, straight and flawless.

No. 3

A '66 2-liter 911 race car. Unusual in that it is one of very few early 911s which was never driven on the street, rather, has always been a racer.

No. 4

A pair of '66 PORSCE 906s dicing at the entry to the famous 'Corkscrew'  turn..............probably the best place at Laguna Seca to watch and shoot these priceless treasures.

This with the exceptional 90-280 telephoto.

An always fascinating part of all RENNSPORT REUNIONSs is the display of race-winning PORSCHE's, many of which are demonstrated and raced on-track by their original drivers. Porsche has the most victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Inexplicably, PORSCHE 959s were never  imported into the US. when they were originally introduced in the l;ate '80s. Canepa Design of Scotts Valley, CA undertook the task of 'legalizing & 'federalizing' this remarkable car so that it could be legally sold and driven on US roads. Now that several dozen of these are owned by US enthusiasts, Canepa has introduced their own version, the 959 SC, a series of 50 updated, modified, bespoke and restored to far higher specs than new examples of this legendary automobile - the Tangerine '87 version shown here in the 959 reserved parking area is one of the first of these custom-built 'vintage supercars'.

On the occasion of RR VI, which took place this year, and in celebration of PORSCHE's 70th anniversary and to 'officially' put the new Porsche Classic Department on the map, Porsche Classic built the one-off 'Project Gold' aircooled 993 Turbo S to demonstrate their capabilities and in part as a response to counter the efforts of Singer and other builders of aircooled 911-based 'supercars'. The car was sold for more than 3 million USD at auctionshortly after RR VI, with the majority of proceeds being donated

Porsche plans to offer a Special Edition Gold model of their current 991 - their name for the color is Yellow Gold Metallic

Every ten years or so, Road & Track magazine publishes their list of the 'woirld's fastest cars', wherein they gather all the outrageously overpowered,  nose-bleed expensive and rare 'hypercars' specially designed to go faster than anyone else, and then test them to determine who comes out on top.

As it did in the past, the narrow-bodied RUF 'Yellowbird'  CTR2 twin-turbo took the honors at 231+ miles per hour. Shown here is the actual magazine test car.

Alois Ruf was foresightful enough to work hard to get himself certified as a car manufacturter back in the '80s and promptly purchased a number of Porsche's 964 shells which he has been making into various iterations of his famous Yellowbird series of ultra-limited production models.

By the way, Thank you for the new format  - simple, user-friendly, logical -  what a pleasure to be able to simply drag your photos into the post / thread.

The final image of this series - of the three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winning Porsche 919 LMP1-H on track for a series of demonstartion laps.

This is the actual factory test mule, which broke a 35 year-old lap record at the Nürberg Ring in 2017 after Zuffenhausen engineers removed the FIA restrictions & reconfigured it to be able to demonstarte the car's full potential - the car has set lap records at tracks which were faster than the times recently set by Formula 1 cars.

Even though Porsche had planned to go for the Laguna Seca lap record, the attempt was aborted and the car was shipped straight from RR VI to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

All in all, a fabulous week of deep immersion &  overdosing on all things PORSCHE............and the SL really came through and performed flawlessly for me.

No story on RR VI can be remotely complete without at least some mention & photos of the original Porsche model, the 356s.

The red car is a Carrera Coupe with the exquisite Fuhrmann 4-cam motor.

This car, a '53 356, and thus one of the first 'bent windshield' models built in Zuffenhausen after Porsche's move from Gmünd, Austria where it all started in the spring of '48, is one of the earliest factory race cars which somehow found its way into private hands and has been fastidiously & sympathetically maintained in 100% original condition down to the tiniest detail throughout its life.........a real treasure.
