bender73 Posted December 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 18, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, I shoot pro on the side. 90% Seniors and for that I have a Sony A7RII and Batis 85mm. I have a chance to trade my Sony A7III and Batis 25mm for a Like new Leica Q. I will still have my portrait setup and 4K video so I guess I need someone to push me over the fence! I miss my M8 and X1. Thoughts? Good trade?
Advertisement Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Hi bender73, Take a look here Help! Leica Q trade for my Sony combo.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tomtofa Posted December 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 18, 2018 A7III + Batis 25 used = ~$2700-$2800. Leica Q used = ~ $3300-$3500. Sony/Batis will continue to drop more rapidly than Leica, probably . . .
wda Posted December 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted December 18, 2018 As an adjunct to your professional work, the Q could be an enjoyable and capable alternative to a second Sony. You seem ready to accept the contrasting ergonomics and menu systems. I will add a link to my thoughts on the Q. See http://macfilos.com/photo/2018/11/13/leica-q-28mm-focal-length-as-all-rounder
weeowee Posted December 20, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2018 I’m currently using both... I do love the Q more but haven’t been brave enough to have just one camera with a fixed lens. If you can live with 1 lens and you’re happy with the 28mm (and 35mm and 50mm crop) then the Q would be perfect. Financially speaking, I guess if the Q is worth more than the sony then you’ll have an easier time saving up for another sony down the line incase you ever want or need one again.
bags27 Posted December 20, 2018 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2018 He's keeping his other Sony and portrait lens...for portraits. This would be his 2nd camera. It'd be a swap for a different Sony and wide angle. So, why not? Of course, you're asking the choir here.

You can always sell it again if you decide the Q isn’t for you.
bender73 Posted December 20, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted December 20, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks! Yea, the Sony and Batis 85mm combo is my workhorse setup for senior portraits, families, and such. When I do a rare wedding, I use 14mm, 25mm (now 28mm with the Q), and 85mm. I don't own a zoom anymore. I hate them. :)
LexS Posted January 29, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 29, 2019 Why don't you rent a Q for two-three months and do use it for everything, with the Sony in the closet?
