Leica CL Street Kit
The compact traveller’s set for reportage photography

Wetzlar, 7 December 2018. From today, Leica Camera AG is offering the ‘Street Kit’ – a set comprising the compact Leica CL system camera and a Leica Summicron-TL 23 mm f/2 ASPH. lens. Together with a Leica Summicron-TL 23 mm f/2 ASPH. lens, the CL is a particularly compact, high-performance set of equipment that is an ideal tool for photographers who appreciate versatility, outstanding image quality, an intuitive handling concept and iconic product design. With an equivalent focal length of 35 mm in 35 mm format, this lens is a true classic for reportage photography and opens up almost countless creative opportunities. Ideal as lightweight luggage for travelling, the ‘Street Kit’ set is completely in black and includes a handgrip, a leather carrying strap and a second camera battery.

A 24-megapixel sensor, fast autofocus and a continuous shooting rate of up to ten frames per second make the Leica CL the ideal companion for spontaneous travel photography. Its outstanding features include an EyeRes® electronic viewfinder with a latency time below the threshold of perception and a resolution of 2.36 million pixels that offers an impressive viewing experience and numerous advantages. As the final image is visible in the viewfinder before the shutter release is pressed, users have complete control over the composition of their subjects.

The Leica CL is not only an impressive still picture camera, this also applies to moving pictures captured with its video function at a resolution of up to 4K. Thanks to wireless connection to the Leica FOTOS app, pictures can be quickly and easily sent to a smartphone and shared in social media networks.

On top of this, its handling concept is extremely user-friendly. All the essential controls of the CL are located on the top plate of the camera. In addition to the electronic viewfinder, there are two dials for setting the aperture, shutter speed, ISO value and the exposure mode. An additional display on the top plate instantly provides information about all relevant settings and exposure parameters.

In addition to the Summicron-TL 23 mm f/2 ASPH. lens of the Street Kit, an extensive range of TL-Lenses is also available for the Leica CL. The portfolio of compact and fast lenses with focal lengths from 17 to 200 mm offers infinite opportunities for all kinds of creative photography. As a consequence of the ‘L-Mount Alliance’, announced shortly before the opening of photokina 2018, which grants Panasonic and Sigma licenses to use the L-Mount Standard developed by Leica and offer lenses and cameras with this lens mount, the Leica CL is also ideally prepared for future developments.

And at 4195 USD, around $300 cheaper in the States. There is also in the States, at least, an offer of the CL and 18 mm deeply discounted. Leica does offers periodically, but this is just before the Panasonic FFs are set to be announced, with the S1 (FF with 24 MPS) presumably priced a few hundred dollars below the CL (to compete with similar Sony, Nikon and Canon products). The SL's price was permanently readjusted downward, and perhaps this is setting the stage for the same with the CL.

I don't think you can leave the main component out of a kit offer.🙄  Of course all components will be available separately - at normal prices.

The "Street" kit would appear to be a better value than the standard kit in US. If you look at what both kits cost and look at the cost of adding either the 18-56 or the 23, it's slightly better to buy the Street kit and add the 18-56 later, perhaps as a pre-owned  version.
