Selection wheel configuration

Recommended Posts

Firstly, as my right eye is weak, I use my let eye for the EVF.   I mostly shoot in 'Aperture Priority mode, using the right-hand control wheel to select the aperture; this works great.  However, when i need to switch modes and use Shutter Priority, I then have to use the left-hand control wheel to change shutter speed, which due to using my left eye is little awkward.  Is there away to configure the settings that  would set the right-hand wheel contextually, i.e, when in A mode it changes the aperture, but when in S mode it changes the shutter speed?  If so, could you please explain step-by=step please?

Many thanks

Basically, set the configuration to your taste and save as a user profile. So you will have a "shutter priority" profile and an "aperture priority" profile.

You won't change modes but profiles (which you can bring under a wheel or the Fn button)

Hi Jaap thanks for your quick response.  Just trying to do this, and when I look at the 'Wheel Assignment' menu I have two columns (Left Wheel & Right Wheel), preceded by icons [P], , [A], [M}[VIDEO], [SCENE}. Whilst I can alter the Left Wheel options, the Right Wheel options are greyed out and there doesn't seem to be any way to select the Right Wheel.  However, when I make a change to on one of the Left Wheel Options, the adjacent greyed out option on the Right Wheel changes.  Is this how it works?

OK, so very fiddly but I think I can get there, however.   I set the FN button to give me a choice of 4 options. I hold the button, 4 options appear, but after selecting an option, when I go back to the FN button several more options are now visible - What am I doing wrong or is this a fault/quirk of the menu system?

I suggest you use the main menu for setting up your individual profiles. Then, if you prefer, use the Function button, by default, to select your profile when shooting.

Hi wda that's what I have done.  I originally set the FN button to have just 4 options including User Profile, but after selecting the user profile, when I went back to the FN button later, several more options were there!

Yes, that is correct

The FN button will have whatever options were set for it. If you have a user profile for which your four options were set, and then switch to another user profile not set up the same way, the FN button will reflect whatever it was set up for in that profile.

The way I set up the CL is similar to how I set up the SL when I had it:

  • Set camera to the default user profile.
  • Modify ALL settable parameters until I have the camera working as I want for one configuration.
  • Save that configuration to all slots.
  • Name the slots for the different configurations I want available.
  • Elect each slot, one at a time, and make the changes needed for that setup, then re-save that configuration
  • When done, export all the user profiles.

It seemed fiddly to me until I understood the logic of the system (starting with the SL, which migrated quickly to the CL), then it seemed sensible and simple. :D
