bryanfowler Posted November 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Picked up a Dlux 7 for my wife. Shooting RAW (or .RWL?) and bringing it into lightroom classic results in just monochrome images. What's going on here? Just Lightroom not playing with the RWL files? Advertisement Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Hi bryanfowler, Take a look here Dlux 7 RAW or .RWL files. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andrewteee Posted November 28, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2018 Mine is doing the same thing in Photoshop. Monochrome RAW files. I also tried to open the RAW files in Iridient Developer, but it does not accommodate those files yet.
GaryC63 Posted November 28, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2018 (edited) I tried to use the Lightroom 6 (with the 6.14 update) that came with my typ 109, but it wouldn't even display the D-Lux 7 images at all. Is there any decent photo-editing software that can read these RAW/RWL files? Edited November 28, 2018 by GaryC63
drgek Posted November 28, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 28, 2018 In the most recent version of LR, you can choose a camera color profile to edit the image. I'm sure this will be addressed in the next update.

Ah, it seems that I did not have the latest version of ID! I normally get an email when it's updated. I checked on the web site and downloaded the latest. The DL7 files open just fine, and they're in color.

Try Adobe DNG Convertor 11.0 https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=6450 Should give you DNGs which will work with Lightroom. Trivette Posted December 1, 2018 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2018 On1 does RWL.
kimo Posted December 1, 2018 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2018 I have the same issue. Neither DNG converter 11.0 or 11.1 helps. All RAW files are black and white in PS and in DXO photolab I can't open them at all. "Unknown error". 😳
lct Posted December 1, 2018 Share #11 Posted December 1, 2018 Seems like there is a bug with Lightroom (link below) but DNG Converter 11.0.0.61 for Mac works fine on RWL files out of the D-Lux 7. Produces DNG files that can be opened by Apple Preview, Capture One 12, ON1 2019, Raw Photo Processor 64, RawTherapee 5.2.0, Silkypix 7, Silkypix 8 and probably other raw converters.http://macfilos.com/photo/lightroom-leica-d-lux7-no-colour-rwl-files
bryanfowler Posted December 4, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted December 4, 2018 Thanks everyone for the input. Kinda sucks needing to do that, but that seems to be what we get with Adobe. 😃
woutdezeeuw Posted February 26, 2021 Share #13 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) I just got the d-lux 7! I'm still on Lightroom 6, and am trying to avoid getting the subscription. So is the black and white problem an issue in Lightroom 6, rather than the DNG converter? I tried DNG Converter 11.0.0.61 on Windows 7, and indeed Lightroom 6 only shows black and white. Edit: I solved it myself, wooo. I tried DNG Converter 12.4 (still works on my old Windows 7 machine), and now it imports correctly into Lightroom 6. Here's the download: https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=6975&fileID=7023 Here's the list with all other versions, if people want to play around: https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows. Camaro5 Posted February 28, 2021 Share #14 Posted February 28, 2021 I have a new D-Lux 7 and LR Classic 10 with my subscription that includes Photoshop ($9.95/mo). There are no issues with importing .RWL files in color. The only quirky thing is when the lens correction box is checked it just says that it is using the Leica internal lens profile. There are no lenses listed in the typical way. FWIW it really doesn't seem to do much in the way of correcting anything, but I suppose that's a good thing. I've been working on the .RWL images in both LR & PS which converts them to TIFF files when exported back to LR. The .RWL files are generally very good right out of the camera and usually only need a few tweaks here and there.
PAG Posted July 29, 2022 Share #15 Posted July 29, 2022 I have a new D-Lux 7 and I use showFoto to import .RWL files and save them as PNG files. PNG is lossless so unlike JPEG or JPG files, there is no contamination between pixels. You can then load the file into your favourite image editor. showFoto has its own image editor if you want to do something a bit more drastic. HpS Posted August 19, 2022 Share #16 Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Anyone here know - Difference between Convert and Extract .RWL when converting them to .DNG on the DNG Converter? Edited August 19, 2022 by HpS

The Extract option is for extracting original raw files embedded in dng files. To convert rwl files, you may wish to choose the Convert option instead.
