I’ve read the manual and cannot determine what that very small illuminated dot is next to the meter lights.

It’s located to the left of the meter arrow/triangle when half depressing the trigger button.

 Thanks

I believe that’s the Metering Memory Lock indicator.

Try Page 170.

I’ll check that out.

Thank you.

I think, basically, that when you half press the shutter after metering on an area you like you can move around to re-frame and as long as you don’t release the shutter button the metering stays locked and that red dot tells you that.

Also Pages 210 and 211 has some info on what it means if the dot is high or low.

Actually, there should be TWO tiny red dots, one above the other. But neither of them are "to the left" of the left meter arrow. They are above and below it.

The top one, as jd, says, shows that the shutter button is half-pressed and locking the auto-chosen shutter speed (not shown if a manual shutter speed is set).

The bottom one shows that exposure compensation is set to something other than zero. Does show in manual mode

Ah-Ha!

Took a while to figure out the operation using the half depressed button and thumb wheel but I now see the flashing light on the bottom and the steady light on top.

Also see my EV indicator as well. Thanks a bunch!!

You’ve mastered the indicator. It’s the same on M-240.
