North / Northwest Posted November 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The eagles have started to arrive at my local lake on their migration south for the winter. It's a treat for all the local photographers. VL 114 Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted November 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2018 We live in the Mississippi flyway, and many of our Bald eagles do not migrate. We see hundreds standing on the frozen Mississippi ice. Photo tip: if you see one eagle migrating, there is a very good chance there as many as sixty more, each a half mile apart.
North / Northwest Posted November 18, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted November 18, 2018 Pico, That's interesting about your area. In my area we have eagles year round but the count takes a major jump as winter nears. We can have one hundred birds on the lake at one time during the salmon die off. The migrating birds seem to stay together more. I've seen as many as 16 in one tree. Yesterday I watched groups of 3 & 4 in trees. They get very noisy which I find interesting. Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted November 18, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2018 That soaring eagle against the fog shrouded pines might be your best ever, in my humble opinion. Really great shot.
North / Northwest Posted November 18, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted November 18, 2018 Brent, Glad you enjoyed the shot. I've been tinkering with the camera settings trying to get better flight images. I'm using higher shutter speeds and iso settings trying to find a combination that gives good results.
