M10-D Operation Question - "999" ???

Recommended Posts

Feeling quite the neophyte here with the M10-D, trying to figure out a couple of operational things.

So the question is that in the optical viewfinder just after I take a photograph the numbers "999" pop up. At first I thought maybe they represent the number of shots left on the card, but no, they appear all the time and always "999"............So what the hell do they represent, does anyone know?

I still await the full manual, and I cannot find an answer in the Quick Setup Guide, or on the web as of yet, any clue would be appreciated!

Edit: is there anyway to check the battery level on the camera? If such a function does exist I can't find that either!

On my original M-D “999” displays and is the number of remaining exposures if using a large card. Try an old small capacity card and see if changes. Battery percentage shows on start up or if top plate function button is pressed - M10-D is similar (pg 25 of manual)

Peter,

As NigelG stated, because there are only three digits to display, the remaining exposures are more than 1000, so "999" in VF display after each exposure

(that ennoyed me first on M-D, but not now with some time using it even don't see it anymore).

To know if this is the case without replacing the SD card, push the right hand "function button", toggle between display in VF, % of batterie then "frames remaining"

(in this case "999" ).

Thanks Arnaud and NigelG, I will check out your suggestions later this evening............And earleygallery, yes it's downloaded but I only have my iPhone 5 with me today and trying to read anything like a large PDF file on that is a pain, so I don't. Cheers, Peter

Please tell me there is a way to turn this off. Like I would care to know that I have space left for 987 photos. Click. 986. Click 985. Click. 984. Click. 983. Click. 982. Click. 981.

Das wesentliche indeed.

I have to believe you are being facetious.

For the D this feature is probably useful and necessary. How would you know when the storage is full?

If I were the firmware designer I would have your comment on a Post-It note on my monitor. Then another one, "Big SD cards are a big pain." BTW, a similar comment survived the deterioration of the Great Library of Alexandria.

Still waiting on firmware update to the original M-D to address this - I'd like it to be linked to the function button (1 press for frames then press again for battery). You gradually ignore it but it bugs me every time.

Just to amuse you even more the M10-D manual states :

  • The number of remaining exposures shown in the view finder/ EVF panel may not necessarily change after every picture taken. A counter change depends on the subject; very ne image structures result in higher data quantities, while homogeneous surfaces mean less data.

-So maybe it'll be Click. 986. Click 985. Click 985 !!!

It’s the modern way.

I actually never realized this before, but now that I have...

I also would like this feature to be removed after taking a photo but instead see the number after a press of the little button next to the shutter.

Perhaps I'm wrong but it is the case in the VF! Each time you press the right hand small button you get the number of possible pictures to take and the value of the reamnining battery power. To get out of this, it is sufficient to press half way the release triggger.

Of course, if the remaining picture left is above the range of the three decimal digits...

Papimuzo,

We stated that in post #2 and #4 already for the remaining "percent of battery" and number of "remaining frames", toggle with the "function button".

But now, what I understand from some posts before that people would like Leica Camera add  a "non-display-of-this- number-after-picture-taken".

So It would be nice to have this "feature" cancealed (or to be able to choose on/off), not to have a "number of remaining pictures on SD card" after each exposure.

  • Thanks 3

Yes, perfectly right..

But, is it so difficult ".. To get out of this, it is sufficient to press half way the release triggger ..." ?

Right, it’s not hard and before I never relay noticed it.

It‘s one of those „bugs you, once you know about it“ kinda things.

I should have never opened this thread 😂

There was no intention to appear pedandic! I apologize if you were concerned by the remark.

I have just tryed to show that if users claim for more and more switches the Mxx-D will loose its spirit.

Have great joy to play with your splendid new camera.
