Although it is a Schneider-Kreuznach design and manufacture, the Super Angulons, both 21/3.4 and 21/4 are Leitz lenses with proper Leica order # and Leitz Wetzlar inscriptions.
goatsby Posted October 22, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 22, 2018 I would recommend the 35mm Summaron f2.8. Great classic glass with a build quality second to none!

ianman Posted October 22, 2018 Share #12 Posted October 22, 2018 I like the Thambar too, but that one will probably be even more controversial than any other suggested here.

lct Posted October 23, 2018 Share #14 Posted October 23, 2018 All legacy lenses are more or less desirable depending on the character of the lens and the tastes of the photographer. The Super-Angulon 21/3.4 works poorly on digital Leicas but has a special look on film ones (and my Sony A7s mod) with high sharpness at the plane of focus and more or less softness elsewhere. It is also the most compact 21/3.4 Leica. Another example is the Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph with its famous "glow" at full aperture. Or the Summicron 50/2 collapsible which was the favorite lens of Cartier-Bresson. Or the Summicron 90/2 v2 which is the biggest Leica M 90 and is underrated for this reason but its rendition is so nice that it is difficult to use any other 90 after it. There are a lot of LTM and M lenses like that but only you can know if you will love or hate them because those are lenses with character, not modern impersonal lenses aiming at perfection.

a.noctilux Posted October 23, 2018 Share #19 Posted October 23, 2018 I regret not having more time to use them all 😂. For decades, I "tried/try" hundred(s) lenses for M or not, and Leica lenses are among the "most various rendering lenses". Only one answer : all are Desirable and Legacy 😉 Talking about 35mm lenses... At one time, I had more than 30 lenses in 35mm "mountable on M ", and was not happier than now when I have much less and use them more 😉. Even with one kind of say Summicron-M 35mm IV, I've used/try a dozen, and I conclude that "the King of Bokeh" is only seen with the eyes of the beholder. I own now two of those KOB after selections, and they are different and I use them differently among my Summilux/Summarit-M/Summaron/etc. Just use/try them one by one when you can.
