hillavoider Posted October 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) just started using current version of LR for the first time with images from an SL. i cannot for the life of me work out how to stop the DNG or Jpeg files being imported into LR from being so dark i can hardly make out what they are. Yet same photos look fine on Windows 10 and on the back of the Camera. Once the exposure is lifted in LR they are over exposed massively when exported for printing or emailing etc. i'm a noob at this and cannot find any info on Adobe's website. Anyone experience this before? Edited October 5, 2018 by hillavoider
Advertisement Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Hi hillavoider, Take a look here Lightroom underexposing images. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted October 5, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2018 Not sure what version of LR you’re running. This might be relevant.... https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/thumbnails-display-black-in-lightroom-6-2.html In any case, be sure to check your default import settings. wda Posted October 5, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 5, 2018 You haven't mentioned your histograms. Do they tell a similar story? Second, are you using a recalibrated monitor?
Luke_Miller Posted October 5, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) If your Windows color management settings are incorrect it can affect Lightroom since it is a color managed application. Lightroom honors the Windows Color Management settings when displaying images. Since most Windows applications are not color managed the images will display normally in them if the color management settings are wrong. 250swb Posted October 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted October 5, 2018 You haven't mentioned your histograms. Do they tell a similar story? This is the key question because it automatically leads you to the problem.
hillavoider Posted October 6, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted October 6, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I really appreciate the advice I’ll check the windows colour settings, with the histogram what do I look out for, I’ll be able to post what I see on Monday
Exodies Posted October 6, 2018 Share #8 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) The histogram should be spread out from left to right. If there is a large gap on the right then the problem is with the development of the DNG or exposure was too low. If the histogram is spread as it should be then the problem is with the screen, its calibration or driver. Edited October 6, 2018 by Exodies
wda Posted October 6, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 6, 2018 I really appreciate the advice I’ll check the windows colour settings, with the histogram what do I look out for, I’ll be able to post what I see on Monday All data fitting comfortably within the extremes, with no significant bunching of data at the ends of the plot. hillavoider Posted October 6, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) Ok, just downloaded LR to the wife’s new iMac and loaded 3 images and all are fine and the histogram is spread evenly on most images. So ... you guys are right it’s windows colour management or my screen, I got no idea, perhaps I should’ve stumped up for an iMac for myself Edited October 6, 2018 by hillavoider
