carbon_dragon Posted October 13, 2018 Share #48 Posted October 13, 2018 Ok, I've gotten the camera. UPS tried to bash it in the corner, but it seems OK.😄 Given I'm at 2.4.5.0 right now with my newly purchased M10, is there anything (other than follow the instructions and charge the batter 100% which I've done) that I should do prior to the update. I haven't done any user profiles yet. Also is there any reason to avoid the update (wait a while to see if there are problems, etc.)? I have to say I'm always a bit nervous about firmware updates. I guess 2.4.5.0 is really just 1 update back given what shows up on the Leica site. I read the instructions and there isn't anything in the list of changes I particularly need. carbon_dragon Posted October 13, 2018 Share #49 Posted October 13, 2018 Well, I went ahead and updated both the M9 (for its update, not this one) and the M10. The M10 was actually a little scary. Unlike the M9, you have to work your way to the firmware tab to do the update. Then there is a decompression phase and then nothing seems to happen for a long time. Then the progress bar goes to about 85% and stays there for quite a while. Then suddenly it's done. Can't argue with the results, but it doesn't give you the feeling that things are happening normally as much as the M9. Mission success. And hey, Aperture actually can read the M10's dng! I was afraid with Aperture not being updated much lately that it might not. I'll eventually have to switch to capture one but for now I'm good. Now I just have to take good pictures with the M10 right?

No such happened to me. hmmm, I tried but I don't quite comprehend what it is he is attempting to explain. My update to 2.6.5.0 was smooth and easy and nothing like he stated either. I didn't have to navigate to any menu and he also states there was nothing happening for a "LONG TIME" but what does a "LONG TIME" mean? 1 minute, 10 minutes 30 minutes? He also mentioned APERTURE and the DNG's, but that program was discontinued in 2015, so that would explain why it isn't "updating" but i presume it will always read DNG metadata regardless of what piece of hardware generated the file. I think he is saying that in the end, his camera did update though.
carbon_dragon Posted October 14, 2018 Share #52 Posted October 14, 2018 I navigated to the firmware directory as shown in the instructions. This was unnecessary with the M9, as soon as you turned the camera on, the M9 asked you if you wanted to update the firmware. I didn’t time it but it was maybe a minute or two till I got the 80% indicator, then maybe a minute more before it announced complete. In the M9 the completion bar moved slowly and steadily toward 100%. I don’t know what is normal. Yes Aperture is essentially abandoned, but it worked fine and read the M10’s DNGs normally. it took way longer than the M9’s update and it wasn’t updating as smoothly. I’ve seen lots of computer updates work that way - it’s tough to make the update bar update smoothly in Windows. It did have me a little worried. Looks as if the update worked fine. It was just different and less reassuring than the M9 update.
Markah1 Posted November 8, 2018 Share #53 Posted November 8, 2018 The instruction for this firmware update says the following is a new feature: “1-Click Connection with FN-button, WLAN starts without submenus on FN-button” I checked the M10 manual and there is no mention of an FN button- does anyone know where the FN button is? elmars Posted November 8, 2018 Share #54 Posted November 8, 2018 There were many questions about this, but: Nobody knows.

The FN button is the center button in the 4-way controller. It is just called the "center button" in the manual, but it does what you want. I start the WiFi by going to "WiFi in my Favorites menu and clicking on that line. So I thought that was what "1-click" meant.

I just got around to download the app and update the firmware on a M10-P but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to enable wifi and connect to the phone without jumping through the menu hoops. When I read the description I imagined one could hold a button for a moment and the camera would quickly connect to the app but this is apparently not working 😞
