Advertisement Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Hi frame-it, Take a look here firmware update 3.3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ingo Posted September 25, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2018 The 'half-press-shutter' preview is now optional and can be activated in the set-up menu. This is great. Unfortunately there is a bug and it only works in display mode or auto mode but not in EVF-mode.
MediaFotografie Posted September 25, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2018 Unfortunately there is a bug and it only works in display mode or auto mode but not in EVF-mode. that's very much disappointing... what are they doing in Wetzlar? New software only addresses two things - and they didn't test these two things properly... no QA for software - no future...
LD_50 Posted September 25, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2018 that's very much disappointing... what are they doing in Wetzlar? New software only addresses two things - and they didn't test these two things properly... no QA for software - no future... That’s pretty dramatic. The SL has been very reliable. There’s no telling yet whether everyone has the same bug or if it’s related to some combination of hardware and software settings. I’ll try this evening. FlashGordonPhotography Posted September 25, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2018 I haven't downloaded it yet but thank you Leica. This is a big deal for me. I really appreciate it. If it has a bug that can be worked out.... Gordon
Chuck Albertson Posted September 25, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 25, 2018 The uncommanded Autoreview bug is finally gone. Thanks for listening, Leica.

Chuck Albertson Posted September 25, 2018 Share #9 Posted September 25, 2018 I just downloaded and installed 3.3, and it re-set the counter to L100.

LD_50 Posted September 26, 2018 Share #11 Posted September 26, 2018 I’m curious about the feedback with every firmware change about file numbering. Is everyone aware of the simple and powerful options available upon import with the major RAW developers? I have had Aperture, LR, and now Capture One apply custom file names upon import for all my cameras for years. After one initial setup (maybe 5 minutes worth of work) it takes zero effort or input from me. That’s 15 minutes over 10+ years. Is the file numbering reset actually important? I’ve switched cameras often enough (7 regular use cameras, many more rented or tested or borrowed) that sequential numbering would be meaningless over time. Unfortunately there is a bug and it only works in display mode or auto mode but not in EVF-mode. I just updated to FW 3.3. The “Off” setting works correctly in all three modes. Auto- works- no preview with shutter held EVF- works- no preview with shutter held LCD- works- no preview with shutter held The “Shutter pressed” setting works in all three modes. Auto- works- preview stays with shutter pressed EVF- works- preview stays with shutter pressed LCD- works- preview stays with shutter pressed

Auto- works- preview stays with shutter pressed EVF- works- preview stays with shutter pressed LCD- works- preview stays with shutter pressed I upgraded to 3.3 last night, the "Shutter pressed" option for Auto review works for "Auto" and "LCD" modes, in that the auto review of the most recently taken picture stays after the shutter is depressed and held at its most depressed position. However, this does not work with "EVF Extended" mode, there simply is no auto review after each shot, and the behavior is akin to Auto Review having been set to "Off".

This assumes you want to let these developers import your photos into their catalogues and use their file structure. I don't. I prefer to keep all my photos separate and back-up the originals. It also keeps them available to use in different RAW developers. I have given up on Leica ever giving users any sensible options with file numbering, so I am condemned to using Namechanger every time I import files. It's a nuisance, but I have learned to live with it. Camera makers persistently fail to realise that small omissions that they think are irrelevant, can be virtual 'deal breakers' for some users...... Capture One allows you to use your own file structure. The “Catalog” can be used to store the edit instructions separately. Aperture had similar functionality. Lightroom I do believe still requires use of their database. Adobe Bridge allows use of your own file structure. I just cannot see my file structure being dictated by a specific camera in any way. It makes much more sense to design a workflow around the editing software packages in my opinion.

FYI: the former app still works perfectly I received an email from the local Leica Store this morning warning *against* upgrading to 3.3 if you are using the current Leica app for your camera or the Leica Image Shuttle. Peter Branch Posted October 2, 2018 Share #19 Posted October 2, 2018 The new Power Save functionality can be a mixed blessing. Using the SL at a social event last weekend the camera was very slow to start up if it had automatically shut down. In those situations I'm very happy to trade battery life for response time. I missed some unrepeatable shots.
