emulsionemotions Posted September 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Leica fans, my last two films I shot with my Leica M4p came back with really strange light dots. The whole film is full of them... Does anybody has experience with this kind of shape and can tell me wether it is actually a light leak of the camera or is it part of the development? (I gave it to a lab.) Thank you for assistance!

a.noctilux Posted September 20, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 20, 2018 Welcome. As seen in this photo, I think it's not light leek which has other patterns than these spots. Is it repeating on the complete frame (strange indeed) ? To be sure, you may show more pictures, with many frames and if possible with film sprockets. 250swb Posted September 21, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 21, 2018 Ditto above. Seeing the full frame including the edges to understand the orientation of the image when shot and the full distribution of the 'leaks' is important. Also has anything changed in the last two films you shot, new lens, new lab, etc?

PFM Posted October 8, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Comets! No actually, more likely a leak in the rear door. In what way are they oriented? Is the frame you show as an example in portrait, or landscape alignment? And could you show a complete frame. In some ways, your example looks like the light is hitting it after the film is wound on the take-up spool, with multiple strikes on each frame, some having to travel through more than one layer of film. Thus you get "comets" of varying colors, with the orange/red ones having traveled through the most layers, and from the back of the film (giving a "redscale" effect). Looking at mine, it doesn't appear the strap lug could be the culprit, as it's not in proper alignment to make that kind of a pattern.
