No one is calling it a Leica, but the 7Artisans 35 mm f2 certainly has "value" written all over it. Recently updated by EM over at Emulsive.org, here is his latest take on this interesting Chinese alternative to Voigtlander and other M-mount lenses.

"Standing on the shoulders of Hamish Gill’s early look at the pre-release prototype of the 7artisans 35mm f/2 Leica M-mount lens, I’m here to offer my thoughts on one of the very first copies to come off the production line."

LENS REVIEW: THE 7ARTISANS 35MM F/2 LEICA M-MOUNT LENS

Thank you Allan. Great little lens indeed. The author could have stressed that this is an "optimized" lens in that it needs 6-bit coding to correct for its otherwise huge distortion. Doing a review of this lens on an M6 was not the best idea from this standpoint. Couple of links below for those interested.

Not too interested in the Sonnar aspect of it (only because I have a Sonnar anyway) but I am interested in the Summicron comparisons and how the rendering is.  Specifically, how noticeable the difference would be between this 7Artisans and a 'cron when viewing on the web.

If you mean the Summicron 35/2 asph, my experience is limited to the E39 version of it (11879). Compared to the 7artisans 35/2, the latter has more flare when strong light sources are outside the frame, more distortion when 6-bit coding is disabled, and a slightly sharper bokeh. It is not a lens i would use on film bodies, due to uncorrected distortion there, but otherwise it is hard to tell which is which when viewing small pics on the web.
