Image borders, watermarks & Capture One

I'm working through processing images in Capture One, and scanning film (tedious process), having ditched LightRoom and PhotoShop (reluctantly, but Adobe's charging policy and the way they handle their software, having to log in etc etc got to me).

 

I would like all my photos to have the same treatment - a border and a watermark in the border, with my name and not much more.  Is there any way to do this using Capture One?  or do I have to resubscribe to PhotoShop (please say no, I don't need to do that).  Is there a Capture One work around or add-on for this?

I believe your “etc etc” is empty. Changing your mind about subscription software would be a much smaller disruption to your equilibrium than changing your mind about how to operate photo editing software.

cant add a border directly..but if you install nik software analogfx that can create a border [ will make a copy of the edited image]

 

 

you can save multiple recipes and render all together which is cool

You can add watermarks anywhere in the image within the output recipes section in Capture One. But as far as I know you can not add a border (one of a number of very odd and easily implementable omissions in CO).

 

If you really want to continue to use CO and really need to add borders, try the (free, open source) software ImageMagick (https://imagemagick.org). For example, the following command will add a 32 pixel black border with the white text "My Cool Image" in RGB colour 'eee' to the lower right:

 

    convert original-image.jpg -bordercolor Black -border 32x32 -gravity southeast -fill '#eee' -font Arial -pointsize 16 -annotate +32+6 'My Cool Image' watermarked-image.jpg

 

You can automate this with Capture One by using the "Open With" option in the process recipe definition. Alternatively, you can run the scripts by hand or (if on a Mac) via Automator to automatically convert any images dropped in to a folder.

The only way to add borders in C1 is in the print module/layout. But I don't think that it is possible to add a watermark outside of the original picture, at least I wasn't successful.

Many Photoshop users may still have an older standalone version of PS, so maybe there is an option to add borders and watermark as an additional step. Not the most comfortable thing to do, but a workaround.

Here's another Heath-Robinson 'solution':

 

OP, I assume you're on about preparation of jpegs for web display.  How about setting up an action in an earlier (non-hookey, of course) version of PS and running that on your jpegs?  You can also play with any amount of plug-in borders too, if that floats your boat.
