D-Lux 109 warranty repair?

Does anyone has experience with Leica NJ working on their camera? The zoom control on mine just started working intermittently and obviously needs repair. I’ll contact them shortly but I was wondering how long it might take them to complete the work?

I’m also wondering if it may be better to have the dealer I bought the camera from send it to them?

Mine started doing the same thing. I was using a lens hood. When I removed the hood, the zoom worked correctly.

I've found Leica NJ to be variable in turn-around, based on parts and the nature of the issue.  Since it is within driving distance of my home I've gone there several times, and have even had things fixed while I waited briefly.  that is not the norm - Usually some parts or arcane disassembly is necessary.

Call Leica NJ, ask for service (actually make that selection in the call director), describe the problem and ask their advice.

I don't use a hood on mine, it actually seems to have two or three spots that it doesn't want to zoom through, I have to operate the lever - or the zoom ring - several times to make it move.

Thank you Stuart, I'm expecting the worst and anticipating a long delay, hopefully they will surprise me!

Mine was "sticky" and worked intermittently (lens cap version) when powering on/off the camera

Mayfair were great about fixing it quickly. Had some gunk/grit in the mechanism and said it was not the first time they'd seen the issue. So you may well be as lucky as I was (out of warranty)

Mike,

As a left-field question, it's nothing to do with the 'pre-set focal length zoom' is it?  This is where the continuous zoom can be set to move directly to, say, 35 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm, etc positions.  When I had my DL-109 I found odd functions getting switched on and off unexpectedly and then having to root through the menu system to find out what had happened and then restore.  If not, please ignore.

Pete.

I had that feature set to operate on the zoom ring, but not the lever. Using the ring would often result in the zoom going the wrong way!

Leica NJ received the camera a week ago, now I'm just waiting to hear something.

Oh that's tough luck, Mike.  It sounds like the lens or one of the elements is de-centred.  I hope they put it right quickly.

Pete.

Thank you Pete, fortunately I have a S**y to use in the meantime but the 109 is such a good camera, I will miss it.

Sample photo, as you can see the left side is in focus, on the right nothing is, this was shot at f1.7, if I close the aperture down it hides the problem so outdoor shots look fine.
