M Lens to Nikon Z mount adapter

Doubt it “solves” edge resolution issues with M wide angles.

Best digital solution for M lenses.....an M body.

I didn't mention that Z is going to be a backup/2nd to my M.  I'm keeping my M and the Z would only be used on high ISO & HSS flash occasions.

Why, obviously somebody will make such an adapter soon.

As others have already pointed out: only Leica has the knowhow (well, more precisely: the PATENTS) how to make digital sensors tolerate steep angles of incidence of the light that result from wide angle lenses and short flange distances pretty well. Even Leica fails to manage this with EVERY lens though, some historical lenses wont perform. And even Leica only uses this technology in the M, but not in their other cameras, so even a Leica S wont do as well as a Leica M.

Neither an adapter made it to the market yet nor the Z7 is in many hands. I would not hold my breath for commercial applications, but I think it is too early to bash the idea that some lenses may actually work fine. For me IBIS, higher pixel count and maybe better dynamic range and low light capability is attractive enough, even if it turns out out only works for 50mm lenses and up. The adapter won't be super expensive, I reckon.

I have a Z7 and it’s a lovely thing; the FTZ adapter provides legacy support for F lenses in a way that R users here will envy, including open aperture focussing and metering. Novatech are producing adapters for M and R lenses and it will be interesting to see how the most recent M lens designs work. The attraction of the M glass is the small size, the Z7 is dwarfed by pretty much any Nikon lens you put on it.

Quite separately, I’ve been away from new Leica for a while and have been genuinely shocked by the latest pricing, the M10-P, the 75mm Noctilux, all a consequence for us in the U.K. of a devalued pound.

The M10-P costs about the same as the Z7 and their new compact 500mm f5.6.

I ordered an Adapter from Novoflex. Will be available in December. I read somewhere the glass stack in front of of the Z7 sensor is quite a bit thinner than on e.g. the Sonys. My hope is that it works out well with 50 and above.

I bought both the Kipon and Shoten M to Nikon Z adapter from ebay and they took a week or so to reach the UK, arriving last week. Both good, but Kipon has snuggest fit and a nicer feel to the release mechanism. The m-mount line up is looking pretty attractive for the Z7 while waiting for smaller native z mount lenses. Been having success with the Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 on the Z7.

Trying to decide what to do now for something around 21mm. Anyone tried the 21 SEM on a Z7?
