Raid Amin Posted September 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I see a vertical line at the edge of the left side in each image today. Is it sectors that died, and should I contact Leica NJ to repair it? It is a faint line. The purple tint is from using the 16mm Hologon. Is there a program for remapping the sensor? I appreciate your advice on what to do. The M8 may not be worth repairing if it takes many months and if it costs a lot of money. I recall having read that Leica may repair it for free or for a small amount of money if it is a few dead cells. Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) This program is mentioned online to fix such an issue. Has anyone here used it? https://www.pixelfixer.org. Edited September 5, 2018 by Raid Amin
jdlaing Posted September 5, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2018 What iso was used?
Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) I used ISO 640 due to the slow speed Hologon. I usually set the M8 to ISO 160. High ISO may bring out such vertical lines. Edited September 5, 2018 by Raid Amin
jdlaing Posted September 5, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 5, 2018 It seems iso 640 shows that on a regular basis on a lot of Leica bodies here.
jdlaing Posted September 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 5, 2018 Try 800 and see if it shows.
Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted September 5, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried it again at ISO 160-320-640-1250. The dead line show only at ISO 640 and 1250. The higher ISO settings seem to be affected.
Guest Posted September 5, 2018 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2018 ... @ Raid, I know this vertical orange line also from my M8.2 There it is right in the middle, so I thought it was the border between the two sensor halves. It will be visible at higher ISO values in front of white backgrounds and only when done in Photoshop some crop magnifications and contrast increases. Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted September 5, 2018 My M8 is also an M8.2 with max shutter speed 1/4000. Our beaches have white sand, so the line will be shown at high ISO. I am trying to reduce contrast. Thanks.

Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted September 5, 2018 No, it is not a new issue online, but it is a new issue for my M8.2. Thank you for the information. not a new issue https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/109458-another-problem-for-this-new-m8-user-vertical-lines-dead-pixels/ CaputerOne claims to fix this in pp, maybe https://pixelfixer.org/ can help you too
Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted September 5, 2018 I emailed Leica camera NJ. Was that a mistake, Jaap? Should I email Leica Camera Wetzlar instead? Raid Send the files to Wetzlar and ask.
rjans Posted September 5, 2018 Share #14 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) I've had comparable issue it with my M8 in 2012. Send images to Solms (those days, now Wetzlar) and the sensor needed a remapping. When I received the camera back the line was gone. Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted September 5, 2018 What was the cost for the remapping at Solms? One of DNG files is now with some Leica technician in NJ.
silverchrome Posted September 5, 2018 Share #16 Posted September 5, 2018 I've got a line as well on my M8.2 (plus a few other dead/hot pixels). I've been thinking about sending it in but I don't fancy spending another load of cash on a Leica repair. Is there any point to sending a photo to Leica in these cases? I would have thought that this problem was obviously a dead pixel issue. And that being the case, the camera has to go back for remapping. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #17 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) I am checking with Leica NJ what they will ask me next to see if I just keep my M8 as is or whether I send them the camera for repair. There is Pixelfixer as a possible problem solution. Edited September 5, 2018 by Raid Amin

It is always a good idea to send a file to Leica in cases like this, if only to find out if a repair is economical.
Raid Amin Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #19 Posted September 5, 2018 This is correct. I am now waiting to hear back from Leica.
