Filter Systems and the M (Wine Country Camera in particular)

So I know the M246 is restricted to only 30s for a long exposure, but I would like to take advantage of "short" long exposure sometimes.

I have a Wine Country Camera filter system for my DSLR, and find it absolutely great (but possibly heavy for the Leica) and they don't do any step signs down to Leica thread sizes.

I am sure this is sacrilege to even ask, but has anyone tried this on their Ms and with any success? Can you for example use Step rings to go from E39 to say 77 or 82mm?

Or should I just stick to the *cough* DSLR for such shots?
