Using this lens with  the M9 results in pastel like colors.

Have to agree, rendition is gentle even in high contrast situations.  1969 V3 35mm Summilux M10

I think black and white tones look distinctive with this lens on especially M9.

I have version 2, its a very interesting lens....  not that bad depending on the copy at 1.4, but closing down it really makes it sharp. You can think of it as a very sharp lens at 2.0, that has the capabilities to go to 1.4 when needed :)The main issue to me is  focus distance, only 1 meter which really is hard to work with since i like close up portraits. It also suffers from lens flare, but that actually gives it character.... Some examples below, mostly wide open, in digital (m240 and m10) and in film (Zeiss Ikon).

The original (so-called pre-asph) 35mm Summilux is such a special lens that I wonder if Leica has considered re-issuing it as they have for the Thambar. No improvements necessary except to include infinity lock which I appreciate, and possibly a conventional filter/shade (not series type). Any chance for a consensus?

Yes excellent idea 😍 re-issueing/release Summilux 35mm non asph.

As many people ask for 70cm focus, screwing standard filter, why not include those in new but as compact mount as original.

Infinity lock or not as "à la carte" would be nice as some people like the lock and some not.

I'll replace mine with the new (no focus lock for me 😇).

I would hesitate between black paint or silver chrome if available.

Infinity lock is the least of my concerns, however there must be a way to enable/disable it at the lens. A tab push-lock would do it.

EDIT: strange thought but if Leica could make ƒ1.4 even more susceptible to halo I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I like much my 35/1.4 v2 but i would not buy a new one with as much or more optical aberrations. Now a modern 35/1.4 the same size as the pre-asph would have my vote provided it has less coma, less flare and no infinity lock at all (sorry Pico). B)

From the bridge on top of Nancy Railway station by a cold January night …

Pico, I'm with you regarding the infinity lock except that I'd be perfectly happy

with one as it was on the 35s from the sixties, no need for over-engineering,

let's keep it simple. As far as halos are concerned, it's easy enough

to make them appear and should stay a user defined behaviour.

The flower shot with oufro from jaques in #45 page 3 shows us

why a re-issue of this lens should not be better corrected.

Add a minimum focusing distance of 0.7 meters and I'll buy it!
