Jon Warwick Posted August 23, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) hello, when i use my Leica Ms (across most lenses, including the 50 APO), i can sometimes see what can be described as an orange and blue pattern embedded into some subject matters. I've attached 2 examples, blown up massively and then at 200% to really show it ...one image is a brick wall, and the other rocks in a broader landscape picture. Is this a "lens issue" like chromatic aberration, or something else (like colour noise; or moire)?? I'm trying to figure out what causes it, and how to avoid it. Thanks so much for you're help. 01af Posted August 23, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 23, 2018 It's moiré, and it's the price you (we) pay for not having an anti-aliasing filter on the camera's sensor.
euston Posted August 23, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2018 It’s quite easily dealt with. Lightroom has a moiré slider in the adjustment brush tool which will clear it up for you.
Jon Warwick Posted August 23, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted August 23, 2018 (edited) Thanks for your reply. Only thing I’d add is - is this effect also tied in with the lenses? It could be a spurious observation (ie, different days, not identical scenes), but my gut reaction was that this orange and blue “speckly mess” was less obvious when I used the SL + amazing SL 75mm Summicron ..... when I compared it to the M body + M lens. Are the lenses also tied in with the production of moire, or have I made a spurious observation? Edited August 23, 2018 by Jon Warwick
01af Posted August 23, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 23, 2018 The sharper the lens, the more often moiré will appear.
mmradman Posted August 23, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 23, 2018 I don’t use Lightroom, how do you eliminate moire in Photoshop RAW convertor/Photoshop cc?
euston Posted August 23, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 23, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don’t use Lightroom, how do you eliminate moire in Photoshop RAW convertor/Photoshop cc? As far as I know you can’t remove it with the same precision as in LR but there is a moiré slider in the Camera RAW CC radial filter. See Adobe’s help article Radial Filter in Camera Raw
zeitz Posted August 24, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 24, 2018 The moire slider can also be found under the adjustment brush in Adobe Camera Raw.
jaapv Posted August 25, 2018 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2018 The colour replacement brush in Photoshop will do the job as well.
