StS Posted August 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2018 Fishermen and the size of their catch - this is truly an international one (In fairness - I did some offshore fishing in my youth myself ) Stefan

Graham (G4FUJ) Posted August 25, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 25, 2018 Graham, Whitstable, Tankerton, Herne Bay, Margate, Ramsgate or Broadstairs? Born in Tankerton, lived in Herne Bay, then just inland in Herne, just below the windmill (could see it from the back of the bungalow). Used to build sandcastles in Pegwell Bay - bit a of a shock to find it all covered in concrete for the Hoverspeed service while on a revisit some 40 years ago. The beach at Herne Bay was all pebbles. Remember seeing the sea frozen in that very cold winter in the early 60s. Had a full length pier back then, too! And Macaris cafe on the sea front - had cane covered metal furniture.

Graham (G4FUJ) Posted August 25, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 25, 2018 Graham, I was born in Canterbury and moved to the Ridgeway (up on the hill) in Herne in 1971 and lived there until 1983. My good friends still live in Herne behind the Church. Small world Charlie Small world indeed Charlie! We were in Woodrow Chase. I remember trudging through the snow, baby sister in a push chair, to see the bungalow near the end of its build stage, must have been around 1962. Moved to Stoke Mandeville / Aylesbury around '66 or 7. There is, or was, a little cafe just above the church, run by one of my school friend's grandmother. Sometimes wonder what the village looks like now. I bet the playing fields below Woodrow Chase, alongside the main road are now under a mass of houses.
